Suicide in the media

At the moment, in the media, everywhere I turn I'm being confronted by the suicide of the TV 'star', at the weekend.

I'm really find the direct attention to the subject hard. It feels as though its a message to me directly. Is anyone else feeling that way?

I can’t say I’m feeling exactly the same but yes, it’s making me uneasy too.

It really got to me/upset me on Saturday and I couldn’t really explain why. I have thought about it everyday since but that’s probably not helped by how much I am seeing of it in the media and on social media. So no, you’re not the only one!

How are you at the moment?

Hey it’s tough to hear about suicide especially when it seems the person who committed it had a good life going for them but the truth is we all have different sensitivity to the world around us.

I think more people do it than we are aware of and when a famous person does it then the awareness becomes magnified- I remember hearing of Anthony Bourdains suicide and thinking damn, I am mentally ill, what’s his problem??? Not realizing that what precedes suicide is the same for all of us suffering with anxiety, trauma, and/or depression.

So it may seem directed at you but you can make your own meaning a life affirming one. I called two crisis hotlines this week cause so was suffering from a deep sad anguish because I felt my efforts at having a successful day were being defeated at every turn.

Then the next day I had pizza and was so content to be sharing a friends company and having a good dinner.

Anyways hope you are taking the news in stride. It’s good to be alive to read your post.

I don't feel the same in a way, BUT.. I just wrote a post about how TV,radio, people, news is screwing with me because u cant get away from it as much as u try to help yourself. Its sucks.

Hi Bonkersy I agree with you about seeing bits in the media about suicides it somehow effects us who suffer from bad depression, we always say we'll I never thought they'd do that, but the brain is a complex thing and nobody knows until they suffer what there capable of. It's sad to see and it certainly doesn't help us.

Hi

If it's bothering you, shut the tv off. I don't watch the news. I read it. One article is enough for me.

As sad as this is, awareness is being brought to the fore front. What was once hidden is being talked about. It shows us that having everything doesn't always make life easier.
