My Eyes
When you look into an addicts eyes they seem so empty and cold. As if they had been completely drained and lost their soul. The scariest thing is when you realize that you are an addict.
Whether it is alcohol or drugs; you know you are addicted when you say to yourself “this is my last drink” “this is my last line.”
But the thing is you cannot simply stop because an addiction is an obsession that takes over your mind and every thought.
Recovery will feel like you’re getting worse. You will be anxious, sweating, and crying because what happens now? What happens when you let go of what has been the centre of your life for so long? How do normal people do this? Is this normal? Is it too much, is it too little? You probably heard this before but it gets worse before it gets better. Recovery will feel like you’re dying a million times and every inch of you will scream at you to stop, to go back, to stop fighting, but don’t give in. Life is waiting for you, outside your comfort zone. And it will get better. It will get easier, you won’t always have to worry about what happens next time, next week, next month. It will get easier. I promise you, if you keep fighting, it will get easier. Don’t give up.
