Making light of a hellish situation

Hello, i am approximately 3 weeks pregnant and i am diagnosed with Bipolar type 2, anxiety, paranoia and BPD ( borderline personality disorder ).

Since finding out I am pregnant, I have had to stop taking my medication as one of them prescribed has a high rate of causing birth defects The major birth defects included heart defects and structural problems with the central nervous system (CNS) or other organs.

And then one of the other medicines I take can affect the development of the baby with the possibility of birth defects, particularly in the first 12 weeks when the main organs and skeleton are forming.

So as you can see, I've been left with no choice but to cease my medication until my next psych - evaluation ( which is this Thursday coming!! ) But hey at least if i murder anyone while unmediated I can claim insanity! LOL

I’m sorry I don’t really know about your diagnosed conditions. It seem like you know your in for a tuff time and it’s good if you can joke about it. Can a positive attitude and that will help. Keep talking about how your managing. I’m sure you can get support in other ways. Being embarrassed to ask for help from anyone may mean you miss out on a better solution for yourself and your baby. Ask question, get information and get this will help being better to manage. I hope all goes well, good luck.

Hi Craven18 and thank you for your post. AppsFun has given some good advice and a positive attitude will help you. Please keep talking about how you are feeling. If you live in the UK, I would think you will be referred to the Perinatal Mental Health Team in your area. They are a specialist team of health care professionals who will support you throughout your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby. Your GP and midwife will also support you. You are not alone. You will receive advice about medication and other treatments [talking therapies]. You may also find it helpful to contact PANDAS [pre and post natal depression advice and support]

pandasfoundation.org.uk

They have a helpline, support groups and closed facebook groups.

Please look after yourself and try to eat a good diet and have plenty of rest. Please also stay on this caring forum to receive support from other members. Are any other members able to help Craven18, please? Take care and best wishes.

Hello Craven18,

Congratulations on your pregnancy for what it's worth olazapine and abilify both antipsychotics can be used during pregnancy but you can't breastfeed on abilify. Also amitryptiline can be used in pregnancy an antidepressant but as you have bipolar 2 i dont think you could survive just on an antidepressant. I'm not a doctor but I have seen a perinatal specialist who have advised me of these medications. I would also suggest you get your doctor or psychiatrist to refer you to a perinatal specialist they specialise in mental health during pregnancy and are the best people to get advice from. Hope this helps x
