Hi im new here, first time on this site. I have been suffering from depression for 9 years since i was in a physically abusive relationship when i was 17, i am out of this relationship now and have been for several years but i feel worse than ever all i want is to feel normal and care about myself and others and to feel actually happy for once in my adult life. I dont know how to overcome this darkness.

Hi xxapxxx, welcome to this community. I am so pleased you are now out of that damaging relationship but it has left behind scars that take time to heal and need help to do so. There is a lot of information here in the Topic and Pinned posts that could be helpful to you. Have you spoken with your health professionals about all these issues may I ask? It is good to talk, and you are among friends here.

Hi thanks your your reply I was having a bad day yesterday and felt especially low. Ive spoke to my gp who gave me antidepressants but I was looking for counselling abd there doesn't seem to be anything in my area and now I'm at a loss as of what to do next.

You can overcome it. You can kick it where it hurts. The first step is to have confidence in yourself. Have you talked to anyone else about it? A GP, someone who knows what they're talking about, unlike me for example. I just hope I can give you some motivation and good thoughts! Treat you and your depression as two separate people, a battle that you MUST win. What makes you even the slightest bit happy? Stupid question, I know. Does anything give you that buzz, if not, find it. Sport, theatre anything! But don't expect yourself to be out of the darkness in a flash. Reward yourself on the gradual steps that you make.

Good luck!!!!
