Paroxetine reduction

Hi, I just wanted to ask if anyone has ever been on Paroxetine? I am on 40mg and tried reducing to 30mg but the side effects are really bad, I wanted to try and do this slowly without the support of a doctor but looks like I may have to see one, never had problems with other antidepressants like this.

Hi I have never been on this med so can't comment. I think it's great that you want to try and come off them but do make sure you are ready first. You need to be feeling better for at least 6 months before you try.

You can do it on your own but seeing a doctor for advice might better if you are struggling. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on. x

Thank you, I will x

Hi, I am on venalfaxine and quite a high dose. I spoke to my doctor about reducing it and I'm now down to 150 mg from 187.5 mg. It's been a struggle the past couple of weeks, but I am working through the plans and tasks I have in place from the causes I've down and I am determined to stick this out for another few weeks before I even think about going back up to the higher level.

I'd suggest talking to your doctor as they would be able to advise you on what is best for you to do with regards reducing the dosage of your tablets.

Take care and good luck with coming of the tablets.

Thank you both so much. I just want to reduce my Paroxetine from 40mg to 30mg for now.

I will try once more and if not, I will see my doctor.

I'm on paroxetine as well. If you want to try reducing it, it's easier if you do it really slowly. I would suggest trying the following. Do 2 days of 40mg then one day of 30mg then repeat this. Then if this is going well go down to 30mg one day then 40mg the next, do this for about 2 weeks and then if this is going well reduce to 2 days of 30mg then one day of 40mg then repeat and then finally if all is going well go down to 30mg daily. You have to see how you feel as you go along and only reduce the dose if you feel well enough. Hope this makes sense.

This is the way I came off it, by reducing very slowly, it worked well.

Hi Caz, I have now started with taking 40mg Paroxetine for two days in a row then 30mg the next day and to repeat. I will do this for 2-3 weeks and see how I feel before I move on.

Hello

You will need the direction of your GP if you have not got that at this time. Your medication dose will need to be reduced slowly as Paroxetine is very addictive depending on how long you have been on it

1st it depends on exactly which condition or symptom paroxteine was prescribed for?

Did your Doctor tell you or did you specificLly ask him. Not all anti- depressants do the same job or work on the same part of the brain! just reducing a dose doesn't necessarily mean you are always on the right med!

I had a different one for my liver reduced from 160 mcg daily to 80, 40 and then 20 twice daily and I still felt terrible, it didn't go with another med I was on! I've learnt the hard way! Now I refuse to take any prescribed ones except my Levo! I don't need them,

but do Check it out at drugs.com and also against other meds you are on.

Okay thank you. It was for depression symptoms but I also have Borderline personality disorder. My moods still go up and down but I did feel quite severe before I started taking them but feel I am in a better place now but I want to reduce them slowly
