What happens if you call 111 for a mental health crisis?

It would depend on the nature of the crisis. Could you explain further?

Self harming, feeling suicidal and out of control.

I dont know where you live, but in Scotland they send out doctors to assess you and then take you to hospital. Im so sorry you feel so bad,I wish I could help you.Have you anyone near at hand?

I'm in the London area.

No, I don't.. :(

Basically my parents are in their late 70s, live the other side of London. Dad has chronic kidney disease, and could possibly have cancer -they're going to test, Mum has mobility problems. I'm an only child, and quite isolated.

Hi there and I'm sorry your feeling so desperate. If you feel in danger it might be

Better to go to A & E of any hospital near you, tell them how you feel and they

Will assess and help you.

There is no need to suffer alone so take action sooner than later. As Depression

Is very treatable. Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Hannah.

I've had mental health issues all my life. I'm 45. There're things in my life worsening it at present. The best I can hope for is management.

Thanks for giving me the background, in that case I suggest getting

Yourself along to your GP and maybe get your name down for

TherPy of some sort.

I too have had this but I think you need to look at what it

Making your Depression worse, and address that as well. This site

Is great for support and I can guarantee you if you join our

Merry ( mad) lol. Crowd , you will not feel as isolated either. That

Sense if isolation is horrible but everything in life can be changed

And improved so see this as you making progress.

Thanks again, Hannah.

I'm in long term non NHS therapy already.. though it's partly uncertainties re the future of that which are making things worse for me.

Taken , possibly to hospital and met by the Crisis Team

You may go through a Triage to check if you are a danger to yourself or others.

You mat then be sent home and then seen possibly next day.

If the need arises you may be sent to a place of safety, depending on above outcomes

If you need help now, or if you feel you can wait tomorrow, talk your GP. If you are in danger and have a CPN give their office a call and they may see you urgently. Their Office can get the Crisis Team out to you quite quickly.

The only NHS help I have is my GP. I see my GP on Monday evening.

in reply toSorrelEleison

Good luck

Tell us how you get on

Always around to help

I have just re read your original query, and I'm getting the feeling that you

Need help. If you feel suicidal please get help, but of course no one can force

You, as its only if you are a danger to others, but I think if I felt suicidal, I would

Go very quickly to A& E and start to get help,

Why would you not do this? Is it Depressio or what is the problem?

Thanks Hannah.

The peak of the crisis was this morning in my session. I have called the Samaritans this evening when the numbness passed. I have a therapy, GP appointment, and an appointment with my workplace nurse on Monday.

As things are right now, I'm not at risk, but very very low and raw. In a while I can take my medication, and the prn Diazepam.

Yes, this is Depression.

a couple of weeks a go I phoned the crisis line and I got a really lovely lady on the line. I also phoned about 3 months ago and I got a man who was very unhelpful and dismissive. I was telling how I felt suicidal and like I was loosing my mind and I was scared and desperate and he basically said 'well what do you want me to do about it' making me feel even more desperate and stupid so I told him to f-off and slammed the phone down. Then a women phoned me back and she was really nice and helpful. They didnt send anyone out but talked to me and made sure I was going to see my G.P.

About 6 months ago I had a psychotic breakdown and I ended up at my GPs, she phoned the crisis team a psychiatrist came and gave me medication and arranged for me to go to a halfway house.

I have used a weekend night drop in service for suicidal people which was very good and I have used the samaritan drop in 3 times but I didnt find them helpful for me. I only started using this site a couple of weeks ago but it has really helped me when I have felt like you are feeling.

Hi I once phoned the crisis team out of hours and the guy was very unhelpful. He said he was the only one on duty and was very busy. I was suicidal and he was so curt and unhelpful I took my pills. I then rang him back to have a go at him and he threatened he would call the police unless I called an ambulance. I would never ring them again. Bev x

omg really.. I always say 'if the depression dosnt get you the mental health 'professionals' will'. Most of them are so rude and ignorant and just not up to the job. I feel like the mental health services and all the other council jobs are there for the benefit of the workers not the service users.

Um, I work for my local council's library service. Sorry for being such a waste of space.

sorry, what I said was an unfair over generalisation.

Probably not his fault though raine as there shouldn't have been only 1 on duty should there? He probably had lots of folk waiting to talk to him and had targets to meet. It's the situation, the decision makers and lack of money which is to blame. x
