Some depression / anxiety returns.

It's been a while since I've posted here. That's because things improved alot for me about 18 months ago. I got back to work and didn't look back. However the old depression and anxiety hasn't been that far away on occasion and last two days has impacted alot. It has been triggered by a visit to family members who I've not seen for many years. It has brought back negative feelings of rejection. I am somewhat confused about my feelings but have been upset in the mornings - not a good sign really. I am wondering what is best to do, and any help would be appreciated. I plan to carry on work and routine as best I can as it helps.

You are right that depression is never too far away.

I believe it never goes away completely but there are times we get better or worse at living with it.

Just remember the better days. It is good to keep your routine.

I live with depression and I have been off work 10 months and just got a part time job.

I have a routine of voluntary work and exercise but I need to earn some money.

Just keep going.

There can be a lot of tension and resentment within famillies. And of course all those old feelings that got you down before will be triggered when you spend time with them. It comes down to memories and automatically regressing to the way we used to think at that point in our lives.

I'm sure this will wear off for you over the nexxt few days. You were fine before so there's no reason why you can't be again, is there?

Just try not to dwell on the time spent with family and try to think like you have done for the last 6 months :) xx

We all have been there and return there, keeping your routine helps as you HAVE to go to work and that is commendable as most would turn over and snuggle so good on you as you have shown positivity.

You know the saying you can chose your friends but not your family, they are a bit like grandchildren, you can always send them home. However when you visit you can politely excuse yourself and protect yourself and leave.

I hope now that you're back home after the visit, you feel more comfortable, Dens

Hello Formidible

My family were of the upsetting kind and I was able to work out a way of walking away from them. Many on here would not be able to do something like that because of obligations.

So I asked myself what would happen if I was able to run away from those responsibilities ??.

All I can say it worked for me

Good Luck

Thanks so much for the replies. It has helped a lot. Regressive thinking has certainly played a part. I had kind of cut them out of my life for many years and now live 200 miles away but was still somehow thinking that things might change. Obviously I was mistaken. There is still slot of stuff that remains unsaid and I may hopefully find a positive way of expressing that in future.

Maybe you have to let go of the negative triggers. I realize it is maybe easier said than done. Keep up with what makes you feel better about yourself.
