I've been feeling depressed for a quite long time (about 2 – 2 and ½ years). There's some days when I could sleep a whole day and there's some days when I can’t get any sleep because I think about my life. I often feel low and don’t have any energy to do any of the basic things such as clean my car. I used to be a different person who loved sport and being with friends, now I'm basically on my own and don’t even want to talk to any of them. I don’t know what to do whether to go to my local surgery or do something different. I would be grateful if someone would try to give me some tips.

Hi Robert your very welcome. Sounds like you need to pay your Dr. A visit.
Tell him everything and take it from there. It's too long to let it go on.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Robert, that's a fair wee while to not be feeling yourself, and the longer it goes on the less likely you are to remember a time that you felt any different. It's good that you are able to recognise how you are being affected (not wanting to do things you once enjoyed) and accepting that you might need a bit of help and support is half way towards getting better. I think a chat with your GP could be a really useful way forward x
I agree Robert, a trip to your gp could do you the world of good. Well done for coming on here and opening up about how you feel. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Xx
