From experience the best way out of depression is:

Self awareness of your condition.

Thinking, feeling, behaviours

Therapy options, Medication, CBT, counselling, exercise, food, alcohol, connection.

Do not underestimate, connection, exercise, food, mental stimulation. They make a big difference,

Tablets are papering over the cracks. don't deal with the causes. they get you of a jam in the short term.

Systemic approach, everybody has dips but i'm on upward trend.

Why I understand my condition, I understand what will make me better, 'm gradually doing it. I understand what makes me depressed.

I am really in a good place, why I know and understand a good structure for good mental health.

Come on be happy:)

I'm glad things are going well for you just now. I don't think there are any right or wrong answers when it comes to ways to make you feel better. What works for one person might not for someone else. For many people, myself included, taking tablets is the difference between being able to function as a human being, and simply existing in a word of misery.

Humphrey,

I'm pleased that you are feeling happier today and long may it continue. As Lucy points put we all need to decide what works individually but exercise, good nutrition, limiting alcohol etc are always going to be good advice!

Take care of yourself

Humphrey42 you make it sound like it's a choice of sorts. Oddly enough, i kinda agree with you. I know for a fact at least one week our of the month I'm going to be sad, mad, angry, crazy, depressed. I have to keep telling myself ok. its that time of month don't overreact. It will soon pass. But when it i feel that cloud of darkness trying to consume Me at other times, i really have to talk to myself. what i tell myself is...you talked yourself into depression now Talk yourself right out of it. Don't let it win. The mind is a powerful tool. I like to Dance so i listen to more music and dance, spend time with love one's, exercise, download a new recipe.

Yes it is a choice I think. There are ways to make you feel good and minimise it. I was tired of thinking, feeling terrible. Thanks for the response. enjoy the music:)
