Pain and burning sensation with indwelling catheter

Hello, I have a catheter issue and I was wondering if anyone else has similar problems. I have notice pain in the head of my penis, a need to urinate and a small leakage around the catheter. Normally, I stand and move around sometimes do a couple of squats and this takes care of the pain. Today, the pain has been constant and standing has not lessened the pain. I have found sitting with my legs up has helped with some of the irritation and pain but not the need to urinate. After doing some research it seems I am affected by catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD). CRBD symptoms vary among patients from burning sensation and pain in the suprapubic and penile areas to urinary urgency. And another site stated Additionally, tramadol, ketamine, paracetamol, pregabalin, and gabapentin administration were effective for the prevention and treatment of CRBD.

I have several questions

1) Is there anyone else with these symptoms using an indwelling catheter?

2) Are there any drugs which work?

3) Should I seek medical advice to rule out a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).?

I have also had this problem. Leakage around the catheter is another problem associated with indwelling catheters. This can happen as a result of bladder spasms or when you poo.

I work as a gardener/grounds-person. It's an active and physical job. I anyone else has a similar job my question is should I consider taking a few breaks and get my legs up when I am in pain?

Thank you for reading and any advice given,

the catheter may be blocked and may need to be exchanged for another catheter.

You shouldn't be experiencing this kind of discomfort. Make sure you consult the service who put the catheter in.

I have the pain as well with the catheter due to infection after the prostate biopsy. , I was later prescribed antibiotic which help to gradually remove the infection and pain. I observed that if the nurse inject sufficient anti septic lubricants when inserting the catheter, it may give less pain

When I have a UTI, the main visual sign is cloudy urine. Presumably you have a collection bag? If the urine is clear, you probably don't have an infection. It seems strange that changing your body position changes your pain levels, which suggests the catheter is wrongly placed. I've had a couple of episodes of needing indwelling catheters and never had an infection at those times. I think preventive antibiotics were administered when I had a bladder biopsy. I didn't have infection with indwellling catheters, only at other times due to my BPH causing retention.

Thank you very much for your reply. I went to the doctors and have an infection in the penile area. I am on antibiotics to help clear it. I have had the catheter recently after several days on Tamsulosin everything is nearly normal urinating.

Thank you all for your helpful. I have an infection-not a UTI and I am taking antibiotics to clear it. The catheter has been removed and with the help of Tamsulosin things are on the way to normal.
