Fungal Nail Infection

Anyone have any cures for a fungal nail infection? I have battled on with it for years just on one of my big toes. I have tried most pharmacy prescribed topical treatments. The next thing would be to try oral anti-fungals but the side effects seem quite severe. Any help would be appreciated :)

Years ago I went for the tablet option because like others have said the topical stuff was useless. I was prescribed Turbinafine. Made the skin at the bottom of my feet like a babies, and cured the toe nail fungus.

How long did you have to take it for? And no recurrence?

It was 14 years ago according to my NHS app, I am pretty sure I only had one prescription (ie a month or whatever, maybe 2??).

Yes it came back a couple of years ago, but I'm older now so don't care :-)

Thanks. It’s just a bit unsightly like at the pool or beach. Like you if doesn’t bother me. But I’d rather it was gone.

Hi Marky-Mark, for long time nail fungal infection oral treatment is the best way to treat it. But you can have side effects unfortunately for myself I was allergic to Terbinafine my doctor prescribed a 3 months course for me but after 10 days my whole body came out in spots and a rash my GP wanted me to go to hospital A&E. instead I tried 2 weeks of steroids it took over 2 months for my skin to come right again in hindsight I probably should have went to hospital. That was just my case hopefully you wouldn't have any issues with it.

May sound a daft question, but is it actually a fungal infection ?My daughter had tried many creams and ointments, but then a Chiropodist told her the nail was actually dead from the root.

Option given was have complete nail removed and it 'may' grow back again.

She did not bother and now just paints it when going uncovered.

Aye, I’ve had it tested it’s deffo fungal. I did ask actually about having the nail removed and “starting again” but the GP said that wouldn’t work 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you tried Vics rub? I used it on my wee toe and it worked. My Doc said to try it.
