Levo sucked for me, but my body has a hard time converting T4 to useable T3 hormone. Levo made me feel better than having nothing, but it wasn't nearly as good as the naturally dissected hormone meds that supply you with T4 and T3. I would recommend seeing an endo to test TSH, and Free T3/T4 to see where you're at. It's a process to get you adjusted to optimal levels. Suggest you check out "Stop The Thyroid Madness" which is a very helpful thyroid resource.
Hi Dolomite786. Yes, my wife used levothyroxine for many years and it made her feel terrible. I couldn't understand what she was going through when she said she was tired all the time, when she came off it, she regained some normality. Levothyroxine is supplying your body with a synthetic T4 hormone, which might do the trick. However, producing T4 production might not be your issue. Your problem might lie in your body's inability to convert T4 to T3, more specifically Free T3. Stress plays a major part, so we made sure my wife got good sleep, learned to relax and have things to look forward to, we were already vegan and just ate more whole food, got more nutrients through green smoothies and also looked into healing the gut. She received a call the Doctor just last week as her TSH went from 9 a year ago back to normal and he could not believe it. I hope this helps.
