Enlarged prostate medication

I have taken Doxazosin (blood pressure tablets) for two weeks at 1mg daily and so far one week at 2 mg daily but without any improvement to my condition of excess visits to the lavatory and a poor urine stream.

Am I expecting too much too soon? Does anyone have any experience of how long before the meds. take effect?

If they’re not going to help much I may as well stop taking them as the side effects are less than pleasant.

Sorry you have been struggling with the alpha blockers tamsulosin and doxazocin for your prostate woes. In the UK, tadalafil 5mg is licensed/ approved for treating the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Maybe you would benefit from another change in medication?

Thank you I’ll take a look at it.

Have you ever tried more natural treatment eg as provided by a qualified, Nutritional Therapist specialising in male hormones and/or urinary systems? My dad's had BPH for >12 years and managed quite well without a single drug 🤞

What treatment was he recommended please?

It would be wrong to copy his treatment. Unlike allopathic medicine, proper healthcare should be personalised for optimum effect. I can ask but best you contact your own NT.

I don’t think I could stand a higher dosage. Thanks for the reply. Have the blood pressure meds had any effect on the problem?

Yes... miles better than not taking them...occasional dizziness..and some erectile dysfunction... did ur doctor prescribe the low dose... maybe I need a review.

I was put on 5mg of cialis which worked for a few years (also made me feel 18 again in another area), as symptoms worsened was put on other medication that gave me terrible headaches.

My original urologist wanted to do TURP … I did no way! I had the urolift procedure done in December, Best decision ever. No negative side effects - my goal was to avoid procedures like TURP that can cause ED issues.

mine was not done on the NHS as I had private insurance. Worth asking the NHS.
