Bowel Issue

Wondered if anyone could give me some help/advice. About 2 months ago whilst walking, I passed what I thought was wind, got home and checked and it was blood. Been having stomach pains since, went to Docs but he couldn’t find anything (piles etc) he did bloods and Fecal Occult Test, both came back normal. Since then have been getting regular bleeding and discharge from back passage. Doctor ref me for flexi sigmoscopy will also came back clear no piles /polopys or anything sinister. Really worried and concerned as it seems to be getting more regular. I have been referred to outpatient clinic for further checks but stress is driving me mad. I’m 40yrs old and fairly active

A friend has the same issue and it was found to be ulcerous colitis (apologies if not spelt right).

If you have been referred to the hospital and are seeing a consultant it seems that you are in the right place.

Stress makes my friends symptoms much worse...

He has tried several different therapies and steroid treatments and finally seems to have ir under control. I think diet is also a huge factor.

Hope you get well soon

That is what Crohn’s disease is and I have a family member who has it in her large and small intestine and I just want to thank you for your reply to kai

That’s kind of what I’m afraid of to be honest, if it was would it not have been picked up with the sigmoscopy and bloods?

A sigmoidoscopy will not tell you if you have Chrons only a colonoscopy will

I would suggest a colonoscopy to get further results as I have family members with chrons disease and that has to do with bleeding from the other end... and serious pain as it’s ulcers in your intestines

Most doctors will not tell you so please request it

I think the blood tests would have checked for signs of the big C; see your GP and ask to see a consultant.

Well that’s what my wife said too but I’m still getting worked up which isn’t helping, due to see a consultant in a few weeks.
