Can anyone tell me if you have to let your Life Insurance Company know if you have been diagnosed with lupus? When I took it out I told them I had unconfirmed rheumatiod arthritis (which is what they thought I had at the time) and now know this is not the case.

As far as I am aware they give you your premiums on how you are at time of taking out the policy. If you read your policy it should tell you if you should inform them if you get a diagnosis of another illness. Any future diagnosed illnesses is the gamble that they take and since it is life insurance, I cannot see a problem. Yes the disease is incurable, but people diagnosed with lupus are living longer now. So keep up the premiums and be thankful that you still have your insurance. I had to wait until I was almost 50 to take out the insurance for the over 50's which does not need a medical.
You must answer all the questions on the application form honestly. If you are in any doubt, write to the insurance company with an update on your health.
They will check that the disclosures you gave at the time were sufficient and if not, they will be able to make any adjustments to the premium that you are paying.
It might be better to do this now, rather than relying on your policy and finding a problem at claim.
thanks guys. Think I'll give them a phone just to put mind at rest.
