Further to my post a few days ago, asking about travel insurance companies prepared to cover people with multiple conditions, I tried all the suggestions and some companies declined to cover me, without giving a reason but I have taken out insurance cover with Stay Sure (thanks, Bessy01 for the recommendation) and am really pleased.
I thought about the possible obstacles to travel insurance cover and decided that I don't need the bowel investigations at the moment, so I cancelled those and had my name taken off the waiting list, so that I could honestly say that I wasn't waiting to be seen for an as yet undiagnosed condition. I guess many of you will have read of Barnclown's incredibly long struggle for a credible diagnosis ("Gastroenterology saga update..." and compared with her awful symptoms, mine pale into insignificance! If they flare up again, I'll review the situation.
I also rang Insure & Go and asked why they'd declined to cover me. Eventually, I was put through to a senior person who told me that I&G "do not cover muscular dystrophy"!!
On the matter of those with a chronic disease being seen regularly/annually, I specifically asked Stay Sure and they were perfectly fine with that. They class it as a "routine" appointment. Phew.
And the icing on the cake is that they will cover me for "any linked condition", ie all the other things on the "have you suffered from any of the following complications of lupus?" list, as well as those linked to my other conditions. Wonderful.
It wasn't too expensive to start with and because I didn't take it out on line within 24 hours, Stay Sure sent me an email offering a 20% discount code!
Thanks all of you.

That is very encouraging to hear skylark. When you have an ongoing medical condition you have to be a bit more diligent when you buy suitable travel insurance.
I have been with the same company for 10+ years, & as I have only claimed once - for an injury, not a "condition", I get very reasonable travel insurance because they have proof i haven't needed to claim.....even though I am very old!
But as you have found you need to be really sure the person you speak to understands what conditions you have.......many appear to get "confused " & deny you cover for the wrong reason,
Thanks for your wise reply. That's one of the things I love about this forum: whatever one's question or problem, someone on here has trodden that route before and will share their experience.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our holiday in Georgia but it is so reassuring to have full, comprehensive travel insurance.
We're visiting the independent republic of Georgia, at the "dividing line between Western Europe and Eastern Asia", with a Black Sea coastline. We're traveling with the Bristol/Tbilisi twinning association. It's 30 years since they twinned, so there have been celebrations in both cities all year, including concerts Georgian feasts, known as as supras. They are amazing: hours of eating lovely food, drinking (lots), singing (OMG, the polyphonic harmonies are wonderful) and toasts and more toasts.
And in addition to one of the most hospitable people in the world, there are mountains and castles and forests to marvel at.
Thank you for this. I'm thinking of/ hoping to visit Number One Son who has been relocated to Hong Kong and it seemed to me insurance would be a problem.
By the way, I generally try the trick of not ordering straight away. It's fun to see what discounts suddenly appear!
Good luck, LK. Let us know how you get on. I didn't wait on purpose: there's so much else going on that i just didn't get round to it. We have builders in; do I need to say more? 😂. And I feared the original SS deal would turn out to be just a lure. I was so pleased to hear that it wasn't!
Next door has the builders in, which is more than enough for me. Over a month of bang, crash, screech, drill on our shared sitting room wall. They had no idea about the racket because they are at work all day! Two consolations: part of the work has strengthened my side of the wall, too; and they have the mess to clear up x
Sorry to throw cold water on your idea, but you really should buy travel insurance as soon as you book your trip. Flights to HongKong are not cheap,& if you had an accident & had to cancel you would lose your money......unless you bought a fully refundable ticket & they cost mega bucks!
In case you don't know, If you look on Skyscanner & Trip Advisor (&'probably other sites I can't recall)! you can enter flight/ class/dates/ destination & they will track the flights for you & when prices go up & down they email you notifications.
HongKong is amazing, but since we handed it back to China..... perversely it has become much more Westernised!
Thanks again. To be honest, HK wouldn't be on my list if not for my son's relocation. I spent my very early years in Malaysia but as a teen and adult have stuck to Europe, the US and Canada.
I have found that if you shop around and start with Stay sure, they tend to make the best offer, especially when the 20% discount offer pops up whilst visiting the others!
