Good morning everyone.

I hope you are well today.

Please will someone kindly post recommendations for travel insurance.

I have a habit of collecting many conditions as well as lupus!

I would be so grateful if you have a recommendation.

Thank you very much.

Margaret. 💐

I’ve just got travel insurance (for APS, Lupus, Mitral Valve Thickening and Raynauds Phenomenon) and Medical Travel Compared found the best price.

The cheapest on their comparison site was Admiral but when I got a quote direct with Admiral it was triple the price so I’m assuming Medical Compared has some sort of deal with the companies.

I’m in the UK

Try looking up to see if your account with your bank covers travelling. It is one thing worth looking into with out the hassel phoning up.

Alot of banks these days do cover travel insurance extensively and also car breakdown as well. Of course you pay a small fee on your bank account monthly. Compared to paying 2 separate payments to 2 separate people. We have always done that and saved money that way.

I found Saga good, the minute you put the “Cancer” in the mix it trebles. I also found if you pay for the Infinite Card with Revolut, they give you free travel insurance up to age 75 years of age. Worth looking into.

I have used AllClear - not cheap but very comprehensive.

I also used All Clear for a 3 month stay in Australia a few years ago. I vaguely remember a price of £300 - £400. However, I know all insurance has increased in price since then. Shop around and make sure you're covered for what you need. Have a good trip x

I have claimed twice on a Staysure policy with no problem.

Hi. With staysure Do you have to pay upfront for medical treatment if required then claim it back ? Thanks lucy

Hi Lucylou, I have claimed twice -

Once when I had to come home early when my father died - I had to book and pay for a new flight home and other expenses. Once I cancelled due to illness before the trip. Both times they were good at sorting the refunds quickly.

I believe that if you need treatment while away you have to ring them first to get it authorised. If it’s a minor problem you may have to pay and get refunded but if you were unlucky enough to be in hospital they would probably sort it directly with the hospital. The best way to know If I’m right is to ring and ask before you take out the policy, they are very helpful.

I hope you get covered and have an uneventful trip!

A big ‘thank you’ for all your helpful advice and recommendations for travel insurance. I will have a good look at the options you have sent and eventually hold my breath whilst I pay for it! It’s shocking how much more it is than my last trip!

I hope you all doing ok. My very best wishes to everyone X

Saga wanted £525 for a 7 day river cruise in Germany - never had to use it but they were the first to get people off Sri Lanka on boxing day a few years & they were really quick when a chap got ill on a tour we were on, so I really wanted to use them (as we always have) for our first holiday after my lupus. But that quote was too much! So went with Staysure as mentioned in the lupus magazine. £387.8. Just hope they're OK if we need it. Both quoted were for a coup[le over 80 with only my lupus needing to be mentioned.

Thank you nottypical, all insurance has gone up so much but I will try Saga. I have heart issues and high BP as well as several autoimmune diseases. So I expect they will all cost a fortune. 🤷‍♀️I will check it out. Thanks again. Margaret. X
