So Hugo and I went to the chemist on weds to collect my script. As I parked up the scooter ( i hasnt even got off it) 2 Patterdales tied up at some railings broke free and attacked Hugo. Chaos ensued with me ending up on the floor in the middle of it all.
Hugo got rushed off to our vet by my neighbours husband and has superficial wounds to his back leg and privates .He also has a wound on his right elbow which has required staples. He goes today for a wound check.
The lady from the chemist took me and my neighbours wife to A&E as the wait for an ambulance was too long.I have puncture wounds to my left hand and nose, bruising with partial bite mark to my right leg (yes the one in the boot) ,bruising to my knees and 5 stitches in my face where my lip got ripped open.
We are both on antibiotics and I've had tetanus so that means I'm off my dmards again after just re starting them . I don't want to leave the house as I'm embarrassed by the way I look...I look like a car crash with my leg in a boot and stitches in my face
Can life throw anything else at me ? 🤨😣😩

Aaaahhh. I’m so sorry. Sounds like you really have been in the wars. What a shock it must have been. Just spoil yourself & Hugo. I always love getting some sweet treats if i’m feeling low. (Put something nice in your mouth!) 🤣 (Something cool n refreshing). Like a magnum. Their salted caramel ones are just amazing. Then bung a comedy on. Just don’t smile too much. Hope you both feel better soon. X
Ps.
Sorry to ask. But is Hugo your partner or your lovely dog? Only when i saw he’d hurt his ‘privates’ i wasn’t sure! 🙀
Don't worry about it a sense of humour gets us through so much ...I normally have one myself lol. I will do he's abit clingy at the mo do wants plenty of them x
Thinking of you and Hugo.🤗🤗Hope you both can take it easy and get looked after too. You must feel very shaken. You could write a book on all this..is your scooter okay
That's the trauma and it certainly was for both you and Hugo. That was my first thought.....your comment reminded me of my "hospital brain" after being in hospital bed facing away from the window, always in the dark and alone for 5 months, I'm still finding it hard to go outside..start slow, sitting. Supporting Hugo who is traumatized too. I'm so sorry. 😔. But it does get better. And don't care what you look like. You were attacked. I'd be more concerned if you came out with hair coiffed lipstick perfect and dangling pearl earrings. 😉😊
Lipstick and dangle earrings arnt me ...I'm a waterproofs and wellies girl .oh I'm.not surprised after 5 months in hospital...3 days was enough.yes I am taking it slow I have to conquer it otherwise it destroys the one thing I enjoy the most and that is outside with my dog x
Such a dreadful thing to happen lovely. It is so shocking when a much loved dog is attacked for no reason and then to have been bitten badly too on top of everything that you have gone through this year is soul destroying.
You are such a strong, capable lady but everyone has limits. Be kind to yourself now and don’t push yourself.
Such a frightening and shocking thing to happen! I am so sorry to hear this. I do hope that you will feel better soon. Have you made a report to the police?
How dreadful! My young dog was mauled so badly she needed stitches and a drain in her chest! It was a terrifying experience and we try to protect our dogs without thinking about ourselves. Did the owner manage to finally control their dogs? You must still be in a bit of shock and it's no wonder you don't want to go out as the moment. I must admit that when it happened to my dog it did colour my world for a bit. She took quite some time to build her confidence again and still hates big dogs running towards her even if they are just big softies but the shock will reduce and you will suddenly feel like going out.
Your mouth must be so sore, let alone your leg. I am sorry that life is throwing all this at you at the moment - remember- 'it too will pass", even if we sigh and say 'how long' as at the time it seems relentless. I think some very relaxing films and cuddles are in order whilst you both heal. xx
She was in the chemist 2 men helped me get them off Hugo. I don't know what happened after that the owner I did see them. Once free Hugo ran off up the road and would only let me near him so despite bleeding heavily from my face I had to go after him. . Sorry to hear you had a similar horrible experience x
Holy moly Sam ! Honestly what the hell ?! They say what doesn’t kill is makes us stronger . So after your hideous run of luck I’d say you’re gonna be a gladiator / super woman after this
I am so so sorry 😔. Sending you so much love and hugs . We’re all going to help you get better with our healing vibes and magic 🪄 wands .
Take care angel and things will get better xx all here for you xx
enraged on your behalf, I feel strongly that the other owner should compensate you in some way and her dogs should be put in a compulsory training course. People who can't/don’t control animals shouldn’t have them. Hope you both recover soon.
Right I'm really sorry if anyone is offended by the following initials, please feel free to substitute for your own nicer ones OMFG! poor you, poor Hugo. The same thing happened to a close friend of mine and her dog and it has had a profound effect on the dog who had £5,000 worth of surgery that luckily my friend was insured for. She can't walk her dog where she used to as the other dog still walks that way off lead and not muzzled as they were instructed to do, but who enforces it - we have yet to find out. I am so sorry, frustrated and angry for you all especially when there's apparently nothing you can do. Please, you have every right to feel sorry for yourself, so send it this way to all of us. After all we are Team A (Team Autoimmune) and that's what friends are for. I'm pretty frustrated myself, nothing like your dog attack, but my brother's centre where adults with learning disabilities go, has to be closed on 29th due to debts primarily caused by a big noise CEO (we're going to change the world of adult learning disability) who left a couple of months ago. No doubt he got his fat cat (sos cats and their cat parents) salary every month and moved onto pastures new about 6 months ago, leaving them with a total shambles. This leaves quite a few adults with nothing to do and nowhere to go including my brother who will once again be socially isolated. I'm so fed up with so much unkindness in the world. However, I hope you and Hugo got at least a massive apology and all I can say is I hope you and he recover both in mind body and spirit. Namaste, to you and everyone on here reading my unintended rant, but I shared because I know you will read and understand and I am therefore so grateful to you all today. Blessings everyone 🙏
Yes, it is and seems to touch the lives of the people that don't deserve it or have enough on their plate. I hope Hugo is feeling better today. I hope he isn't feeling too confused about everything. You of course too 🙏 take care of yourselves xx
He wasn't happy out on his walk pulled like a train and got abit stressed when we met another dog who started barking at us. The Dog wasn't doing anything wrong he was on a lead under control.we both came home abit stressed x
Oh poor boy and you. My friend's dog struggles like this also. My little dog (when he was alive) was attacked when he was a baby and he never really forgot about it. He hated all dogs off the lead running towards him and used to bear his teeth which made other people say he was a "snappy little dog" when all he was doing was frightened and defending himself. I bought yellow leads and collars stating do not approach, nervous, yet the off lead dogs still used to bound up to him even though I asked them not to because of what had happened. I totally understand where you are both coming from. I guess you have to just work with it and in time it will get easier. Such a shame for Hugo, but it's such a good job he has you looking after him x
Yes the police are involved Gloomy. A&E are obliged to report dog bites nut a passerby dialled 999. The police have been to see them and the dogs are lovely. The owner has to go to the station to be interviewed at some point x
I am so sorry love, that is the last thing you needed. Poor you and poor Hugo. Wishing you both a speedy recovery and Hugo a short memory. Take it gently xx
So sorry to hear this ordeal you've been through. Your day turned on a sixpence then!
As you've said, "What else can life throw at you!" Well, hopefully some calm time to get over this; mentally, emotionally, physically and I hope the other dog's owner will come forward and offer financial help.
Sending you very best wishes and supporting vibes for a good recovery of all those injured. 🤗
First,SML. This is outrageous and I’m sorry for you and your pup. Truly sorry if I didn’t live over the pond I’d bring you soup and homemade pie and beef chew for Hugo. You Brits are so restrained in your language I wonder then does it help you in your everyday life? Because I’d have unleashed my inner fury on the owner and collected what’s due me in physical and emotional damages. Lawyer up. As far as how you look: you’ve got great skin. Go show it off. If anyone asks tell them the truth. You have no shame in this game. Do not isolate yourself. Get yourself out to lunch or tea or the park. I’m sorry this has happened after everything you’ve gone through. Can you taxi/uber and treat yourself? I’ve seen dog fights, but never involving a human. I was viciously attacked by my outdoor cat Jimmy. 10 years ago. I had my tetanus too but it took all summer and 3 antibiotics to heal. We had him put down. We had watched him become more like a feral cat. I think sometimes we live in a world of feral people 🫤 Today we were at our farm and I had to shoot a coyote. Our dogs’ rogue cousins. I don’t like it but it was my 2 dogs or her/him/they😂(sorry I’m a language purist and the pronoun thing makes me laugh). Hope you heal well SML. You deserve it. 🌼🌼Mm
Aw thanks Mm. I didn't see the owner but I was bleeding too heavily from my face and it was more important to get Hugo to our vet and me to hospital. I now have to wait for the police to do their bit. The owner has to be interviewed yet and it will depend on whether or not she admits liability as to what will happen next .I'm hoping when I have the next check up following my ankle surgery he will say I can drive and Hugo and I can return to the beach. Sorry to hear about your cat attacking you and about the risk to your pups today xx
That's awful, both my wheaten Terriers I had were attacked and it all seems to happen in slow-mo. you just automatically protect your dog even though we shouldn't really. Something wrong with those dogs though if they attacked like that. Two dogs will often wind each other up but even so I've had two and they didn't turn to attack in a pack. Mostly they went up to other dogs and wagged their tails. Trouble is once one of my dogs had been attacked he was never the same he would give some other dogs the eye and lunge out. I always had to have him on the lead after that. It's such a shame when they were placid before. It's poor owners who don't know how to discipline or tie up their dogs properly. If anything like that happens again try shouting out angrily at the dogs and tell them to 'leave it'. Stand as tall as you can and be firm don't bend down and don't be afraid to be really angry at the dog or dogs. Once I learnt that they tend to back down as they take you for 'top dog' and do as their told. It's not easy as its hard to tell other dogs off but its like telling other people's children off sometimes you just have to do it to get out of a bad situation. Growl at them if you can they really back off then. Perhaps take a walking stick out with you to use as a weapon. Obviously not with a German Shepherd size though!! Just don't put yourself in the fight too, no matter how much you want to save your dog. I hope it never happens again to you though. Hope you heal ok.
I do understand what you are saying. When I had millie & marley they never attacked and certainly showed no sign they would band together to attack. However the two dogs on weds were hell bent on ragging hugos back legs and I'm not sure that tactic would of worked x
Did you say what breed attacked Hugo and you? There is a lot of common sense to dg70’s suggestions. I’d forgotten my experiences riding my bike on country roads in my twenties; either alone or with a pack. Never never look the dog in the eye. I used to lift my bicycle in front of me and growl very loudly as I slowly backed away. Very good to have a cane with you, an umbrella, a “steak” hahaha. Don’t look the animal in the eye and have a prepared weapon/shield. Plz notice I said animal. Dogs that attack are no longer pets. There should be no shame or guilt if you must injure it. 🌼
OMG… I am so sorry this has happened to you. How awful!!!
Look, your the victim of an attack…please don’t be embarrassed about going out don’t let this incident affect your life.
Were there no owner’s or did they just not care?
It’s absolutely horrific and you must still be in shock too. Once your little guy has recovered, both of you need to get out otherwise a pattern of “Feeling embarrassed will turn into reluctance to leave the house, which in turn will lead to NOT leaving the house”!
Your certainly NOT feeling sorry for yourself one bit!
Anyone in your position would feel exactly the same.
The wounds on the outside will eventually heel, it’s the wounds on the inside I’d worry about.
Your a lovely young lady and have been through hell.
People truly do care for you and will support you through this platform.
Don’t let this horrendous incident ruin your life. Your really brave.
Thank you for your kind words especially the young lady bit 😁.The owner was in the chemist I didn't see them. The police have been to see them and they will be called in for an Interview at some point. What happens next will depend on whether they admit liability or not. X
I’m very sorry to hear you and your dog Hugo were attacked by a pair of out control Patterdale terriers. Sad and also very angry.
Just wondering but could this owner be charged with irresponsible and negligent dog ownership?🤔
Patterdale terriers are not strong large dogs like XL bullies but for them to break free from the railings one has to ask, WERE they both tied securely to the railings by the owner at the outset?
Why were they left there?
How long for?
Where was the owner when the attack happened?
Were their collars and leads adequate, intact and not frayed? Police need to look into this. It could happen again.
I’m sure you would win a prosecution against this owner but…?🤔
It will depend on if she admits liability or not. I don't think they were tied securely I think their leads were just wrapped around the railings while she was in the chemist. There is no prosecution for dog on dog so it all depends on whether she accepts they caused my injuries x
I hope the stress doesn't because I'm off the dmards as I need antibiotics. The police have said there is nothing to say Hugo didn't bite me in the chaos but how he could bite me in 4 places is beyond me x
