hi everyone! Last week I posted pictures of my son’s face rash asking if it looked like cutaneous lupus. For those who are just reading now, he had this rash for about two months now— started on his ear which was raw red then went away. A few weeks later the rash developed bright red spots on his face that turned into what the pic shows on my previous post. This week the rash does seem to look at little better and more faded. He has had reoccurring mouth ulcers during all of this. Blood work was done— ANA test came back negative with no inflammatory markers in the blood work. However, I still have concerns for something cutaneous. Doctors don’t seem to think it’s lupus but I feel like I’m doing more work then them lately to get to bottom of this. Other than rash and canker sores, he is acting normal, no fevers, eating regularly and is his happy self. Still very worried over here. Have a consultation next week for a skin biopsy which I have fought for.

This picture is his face now, looks like it’s healing. Is this what a lupus rash looks like when it’s healing? Any feedback would be appreciated 🙏🏼

Everyone has different rashes. It doesn't look like mine to be honest. I was treated for rosacea for 4 years until a biopsy and positive ANA and CRP diagnosed lupus.Hope the biopsy gives some answers.

I hope you are well. My son had more blood work done and his ana is still negative however he has an anti smith antibody as 2 and SSA level of 3 which they are telling me is still indicated to be considered “normal” range. I am very distraught over this as the doctors are super dismissive. Do healthy ppl have antibodies of anti smith and SSA if they do not have lupus?

I’m sorry you are going through this with your son but it sounds as though you are ticking all the boxes to get answers. Food allergies can also cause rashes like this. Thankfully as you say he is acting like a healthy kid! Let us know how he is. MM

Thank you for your reply! I suggest allergy testing for certain foods and the dermatologist brushed it off and said that food allergies couldn’t do this. I am having a hard time dealing with the doctors because of this but I am going to keep at them! Do you know which foods can do stuff like this? He is a picky eater but drinks lots of milk and has a lot of yogurt and ice cream. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you so much again <3

Hi. I’m sorry in my late reply. I do not know about childrens’ blood test scores for autoimmune disorders but perhaps someone more knowledgeable will jump in. Your son is doing well? No other symptoms?

You mentioned he eats a lot of dairy. Dairy is inflammatory and also full of sugar. Could he have a yeast infection perhaps? A skin scraping from a dermatologist would be helpful. BestMM

I have tried to advocate for that, they told me that allergies would not do this. I am having such a hard time with everything considering they are not listening to me. I’m very concerned. He has been feeling fine acting normal, rash had faded pretty much however e has reoccurring canker sores
