UTI’s Update

Well I have at last had a positive few days. I would like to thank people on this site for suggesting vaginal atrophy to me. I spoke with my GP on Friday and she agreed that I could try oestrogen pessaries. I had a telephone consultation with a Urologist today. After a shaky start where she asked was my Fibromyalgia under control, she actively listened as I relayed my medical history including diagnoses, changing consultants, and the issues I had with them. She was genuinely appalled and asked how can you have faith in your doctors if everyone you see gives you a different diagnosis? She was particularly horrified by the hysteria diagnosis. She asked lots of questions and expressed frustration that I have suffered too many years from burning and UTI’s without intervention. She agreed that the pessaries were the right way to go and said she would put me down for clinic as soon as they started back to see if there was anything else they could do to help me. We were talking for about half an hour. It was positive, supportive and I felt listened to and cared about for the first time in years. Additionally I had new cushions delivered for my chair thanks to my lovely OT and I have been doing 15 minutes every day on the treadmill..it is a start. 🌈

It makes such a difference when you get listened to.

It certainly does. The Urologist said it was very good that your GP decided to put you on the pessaries. I told her it was not my GP but a recommendation from my Lupus group lol

Hi my dear so glad that you got sorted with the pessaries. I went through something similar last year, I know how hard it can be not being listened to. I eventually saw a lovely menopause specialist who not only prescribed the pessaries but she also suggested that I try Sea Buckthorn Berry oil. I have been taking that for about 8 months now and the combination of these 2 have had such a positive affect on me and my life. I feel like I have my life back. I would suggest looking into the Sea Buckthorn and checking that it is safe to take with any other meds you are on. Namaste x

Hi Mala, thank you so much I wonder what the sea buckthorn does? I tried it in cooking recipes but never thought of it as a supplement . I will definitely look into it xx

Hi Cecily, as I understand it the sea buckthorn helps the fluid levels in your body. I cannot remember exactly. I will try and find the article the menopause specialist gave to me. If menopause is causing you issues as well then perhaps look into using the ladycare menopause magnet.

I had breast cancer 12 years ago which causes me vaginal atrophy. I was in a really bad way for over a year, with my own GP could not help at all. They also prescribed replens which felt as though it burns, So I buy something called Regelle that is much more soothing. I cannot get it on prescription but I now find that I do not need to use these all of the time.

However I have found that a combination of the sea buckthorn, the ladycare magnet, pesserie and Regelle all help me so much. Also as a holistic therapist/Reiki teacher I find that self-care, especially managing my stress levels helps me too.

I hope this helps. Sorry for the rambling reply. Namaste

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. I am relieved that I am not the only one who gets burning with the Replens. I will order some sea buckthorn and look into the magnet. I have seen it advertised on tv. Xx

That is brilliant that you had such a positive appointment with a Urologist willing to listen and understand what you’ve been going through.👍🏻👍🏻 As well as pessaries my GP prescribed a vaginal moisturiser (Replens) which is also applied like the pessaries. It has also made a huge difference to how I feel down there. I use each product a few days apart every week. I hope you get relief soon. So pleased your appointment went well. Hugs 🤗😘

Thank you I have been using the Replens for about 18 months but I haven’t been able to stand the severe burning it has caused for the past month. I used my first pessaries last night so fingers crossed it works for me . I was astounded that someone would give me so much time and not only ask about my issues but my quality of life too. I thanked her profusely and she said it was my pleasure, look after yourself. I came off the phone choked up and my husband thought she had upset me. Nothing could have been further from the truth xx

Sorry to hear the Replens caused a burning sensation. Were they perfumed. The pharmacist gave me perfumed ones last time and they did that so I’ll make sure I don’t get them again. Usually I have non-perfumed. Anyway I hope the pessaries are working. 🤞. 🤗😘
