Weird advice from rheumy!

Hello lovely Lupies,

I hope everyone is feeling ok in this difficult time that has befallen us. So I've been flaring up quite a bit over the last month. I emailed the rheumy nurse and suggested that maybe I need steroids and told her all my symptoms. She told me that I do as my symptoms show a flare up. I went last Friday had bloods done aswell and cake back with steriods which i started immediately. 15mg for 2 weeks then 10 for 2 weeks then 5 for 2 weeks then stop. So after alot of speculation i decided to self isolate for 12 weeks. I work as a nanny for 2 families so this was hard for me to decide but after consulting with many friends and families i made that decision. Anyway i thought i better get rheumys advice. So left him a message to call me. First of all he didn't know I was on steroids, second of all he's telling me I'm not at high risk but just slightly more than average. My blood results weren't too bad so he told me I should only take 5mg steroids for 4 weeks. He's not the best rheumy when its come to common sense for a lot of things. So now I'm thinking did I make the right decision or not???? Grrrr

I think you’ve definitely done the right think - we must all stay safe x

Ha, ha! The right decision might be to change your rheumatologist😆, or at least, his nurse? (Maybe they should get on the same page??)

A lot of our treatment speculative, even though guided by science. These are unprecedented times, so I would recommend erring on side of caution and keeping as safe as possible.
