Constructive discussion with rheumy :)

I've complained a fair bit here about my rheumy, so it's only fair I should also post when he deserves praise. After the difficulties I had last week in getting my results, he rang me today and discussed treatment options. We agreed on the importance of finding a way of increasing my steroid dose and he acknowledged my difficulties with increasing steroid dosing. When I said I'd been trying to get round it by combining pred and hydrocortisone, he said, "Only you would try that!"

Anyway, he suggested I go onto the ward tomorrow to try some methyl prednisolone "loading", with a view to adding azathioprine in due course.

I am still scared about how this may go, but my anxiety level is lower now that he has shown that he's listening to my concerns and willing to adapt his approach accordingly. Isn't that what we all need? Well done, Dr X!

PS the other lesson - as if we didn't already know it - it's the squeaky wheel that gets oiled!

Quite possibly, misty. When I'm not at home, almost my entire life over the past couple of years has taken place in hospital :P

Great that he’s listening - you’re right that’s what we need more than anything really (well getting better would be nice too 😬). Good for you for having the tenacity and bravery to be a squeaky wheel despite being so ill. Not great having to deplete your already very limited energy just to be heard.

Good luck today in hospital. At least if you react badly they are there to help and monitor and this could be a breakthrough 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 xxx

I hope all goes well. Dr X sounds more human than so many of the medics we deal with. Well done for keeping going until you got him on the phone x

Thanks Kevin. I had a bit of a drama this morning - my first day of new meds - when I unthinkingly swallowed 4 tablets (like I always did with my old tablets). Moments later, I realised this meant I had swallowed double the prescribed dose of the new meds! I will draw a veil over the next 10 minutes. Never a dull moment here....x
