Hi,

I have noticed that my urine has a very strong smell. Any idea what could be? I don't have pain when I urinate. But I am not feeling too well. I don't know if it is linked. I am seeing my doctor on Friday.

Thank you xxx

Hello Tulipano,

My urine some days smells very strong but I’m afraid I can’t help you with the cause. I just put it down to the concoction of medication I’m on and just another Lupus associated DAMN THING!!!

Sorry that’s all I’ve got! 😷😷😷

Good Health,

Hi Tulipano, you may be a little dehydrated, your urine should be a light straw colour, if its darker than that then try to drink more water. You can get the doctor to check for infection when you see him/her. Good luck, Heather

Hi, your urine shouldn't have a strong smell unless it is concentrated and you are dehydrated or you are eating foods which sometimes cause your urine to smell. Increase your fluid intake and take a urine specimen with you on Friday. Even though you don't have pain on urinating it could still be a UTI especially as you say you aren't feeling well. You could take a urine spec to your GP and ask the practice nurse just to dip test it for you.

Hello. My urine is always the same. It’s never clear and it smells, some days worse than others. My bloods are always good and I pass the urine tests. I also drink plenty of fluids and am not dehydrated. I think it’s the amount of meds I take. I’m in 3g a day of MMF immune suppressant, 400mg of hydroxychloroquine and 50mg of mepacrine three times per week, plus 2 antihistamine a day. I’ve never mentioned it to my GP as other than the smell I am OK. Hope I’ve helped. Wendy

Do you have any other symptom? Anything unusual? Swelling in your ankles, wrists or fingers?

And what about urine color? Is it "foamy"?

Tell your Dr what you observed. I hope they give you a general urine exam to find some answers for you.

Bad smell could mean something or could mean nothing... but don't forget to tell your Dr and ask to be tested.

(my experience: I have nephritis due to lupus SLE)

Best luck to you!

Sam

Hi, always have blood in your urine? You MUST go to doctors today for assessment, sounds like your kidneys aren’t happy. Do you have feeling of needing to go and not much comes out? Meantime, as others state, drink plenty of fluids, constantly. Water if possible. Maybe with electrolytes- nettle tea, very strong. Probiotics every two hours and Vit c the same.
