Hi everyone, I hope everyone is as well as they can be. So I've developed a new problem and I really need some advice or to know if any of you have experienced this as I'm worried and don't know what to do. I try not to talk to my husband too much about these things because it upsets him, so I don't want to worry him too much. Basically 2 weeks ago I started with chest pain again and for the past few weeks my hair has increased falling out. I have recently been increased on my methotrexate to 25mg injection once a week. My doctor at first thought that the hair loss may have been due to the increased dose of methotrexate, but when the chest pain re appeared (it had gone with the methotrexate) I started to worry it was a flare up. I have recently (9 weeks ago) returned to work and I wonder if the increased stress may have now triggered a flare up. Anyway back to the point lol, I woke up a week and a half ago with severe pain in my bladder and kidneys, at the time I went through a series of it must just be this, or just one if those things as we all do with these problems with the immune system. By Tuesday, still in agony I decided to dipstick my urine (which I had in the house). I went through dipsticks every time I went to the toilet from Tuesday morning until thurdsday night when I saw the doctor. Each sample showed a lot of blood, some protein and at times (3times) luekosites. So the doctor prescribed antibiotics and told me she would send my urine off to be tested. I was told if an infection appeared, then it's just a simple infection due to reduced immunity etc, but if no infection showed then I was to contact my consultant immediately incase this stupid condition was now affecting my kidneys. So the antibiotics haven't done too much, and now 6 days later I'm in absolute agony and the gp surgery have told me my sample came back inconclusive with mixed growth, a red blood cell count, a white blood cell count and +++ squamous epithelial count (not that I really know what that means). So I've been in agony all day, my boss has tried to send me home but I refused, I had so many problems trying to keep my job as it is, without going sick again when I only came back recently!!! Anyway back to the point, I really don't know what to do, do I ring my consultant tomorrow? I am in so much pain, but I don't know why, it's in my lower back, kidney area and at times my bladder is a little tender. I'm scared as well that this disease may be progressing even with the treatment I'm already on, it is now completely frightening the life out of me. To add to it all I'm having a brain Mri in the next few weeks ( to find a brain!!) due to my confusion, intermittent tremor and forgetfulness, I've become very very dippy recently. Anyway if the ground could just open up and swollew me right now!! I think I'm trying to do too much, and act too 'normal' and everything has now got on top off me. Any advice would be helpful, thank you in advance xx
Kidney pain and blood in urine.: Hi everyone, I... - LUPUS UK
Kidney pain and blood in urine.
Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time!
It sounds like you definitely need to be off work. I know how hard that is but if you need it, you need it, and struggling on just makes things worse in the long run.
I'm assuming you have a rheumatologist and if that's correct I think you need to discuss all this with him/her. If you get no sense ask for a second opinion and if the pain is really, really bad go to A&E. I've had kidney stones a few times and they give blood in the urine with excruciating pain.
Good luck with it all!
Best wishes!

I would ring your lupus doctors today and go to see them as soon as you can. Your GP may mean well but they do not have enough knowledge about Lupus. Meds have caused me as many problems as my Lupus and its needs a lupus professional to look at your dosage. So sorry to hear you cant open up to your husband and I do understand why, but now is the time to get as much support around you as possible. I do hope you get checked out as soon as you can.
Hi Kelfreem,
You need to rest my love. I understand where your coming from with regards to your job, but your body is crying out for you to slow down and just take time out.
You also need to either see your Rheumatologist or go to A&E with regards to your pain and bleeding. But if your boss is happy to send you home then go, because you seem to be running around trying to do everything and more, but your body needs to rest.
I too suffer with Lupus but I'm nowhere near as bad as yourself. I also suffer with pelvic pain as well for which I'm on morphine for, along with loads other medications.
You take care my love and I hope you manage to get everything sorted out. But don't keep your husband in the dark, he loves you and he can the strain of you while you rest. If he doesn't know what your going through how can he help.
Take care
Xxxx
