I am wanting to try CBD for some pain management and was wondering if anyone has any advice or prior experience. Which brands, what strength etc. Would love to try alternative in conjunction with my other meds, that'll make it easier to get off the chemicals easier.
Thank you

I bought some CBD oil from Holland and Barrett. Within a couple of days I had a noticeable improvement in the shoulder pain I suffer because of sub-acromial impingement. In the past the only thing that has given me any relief has been steroid injections into the joint but this was not a long term solution and I struggled a bit with the side effects of the steroids.
The CBD worked well but it tasted pretty bad (you put it under your tongue and hold it in your mouth before swallowing). This was making me gag which was a real problem because I have GORD and bile reflux. I stopped taking it and the pain returned.
Someone mentioned on this forum a brand called Truth. This oil comes in different flavours and I ordered some online. The difference was amazing. The first oil I bought had been black and tar-like but the Truth oil was clear and the lemon flavour was not unpleasant (also comes in peppermint or natural flavour).
It’s not cheap but I’m going to continue taking it because I’ve had a significant reduction in pain. I’ve also been sleeping better.
As I’ve only been taking this for a few weeks I don’t know how it will work over time but anything that helps with pain is worth a try.
I forgot to say, the oils I tried are zero THC formula. I also spoke with my pharmacist to see if there might be any conflict with my prescribed medication and I mentioned it at my hospital appointment yesterday. Neither the pharmacist nor the rheumatologist raised any concerns (not saying they recommended it but they didn’t come up with any cautions or warnings).
Hi . Just wondering, are you using the 250mg of Truth oil? I too am interested in trying the oils. Am very sensitive to meds of any kind. Would appreciate your advice.
Hi. I am using the 250mg Truth oil. To be honest, I don't usually have problems/sensitivities with meds, whether prescribed or over the counter. If you are very sensitive to meds I would be cautious of anything new. I would suggest you speak with a pharmacist to discuss whether there may be any conflicts with the meds you are already taking and also speak with your doctor for advice.
I'm no expert on CBD oil but I am cautiously optimistic that I am getting some benefit from it.
Thanks for your detailed reply. I will speak to my gp and check if there is likely to be any interactions with the drugs I am already on. I would love to try it but very nervous as I have had so many bad experiences with drugs . I am so happy for you that the oils seem to be working. I will let you know if I take them , how I get on. Good luck and I hope that they really help with your pain. Xx
I have tried the H&B CBD oil and another very expensive one from Elixinol - they both work for me. I have Sjogrens and Lupus. I take them as and when I need them for pain relief- the H&B tastes bitter but so good for sleep with no after effects - two drops under the tongue. I have used it on the patches of dermatitis on my forehead - fading fast! TRUTH is a good brand as us CBD BROTHER. We all react differently but I would give the cheapest (H&B) a go first. Put lemon in it if you don’t like the taste. Good luck.
I would just like to advise you to discuss this complementary therapy with your consultant before starting it. They will be able to advise you about any potential adverse effects or interactions that may occur with your current medication. It is important to bear in mind that everyone with lupus is different and what works for one person may not work for another, or may be potentially harmful.
