Hi Tracey
I do know that if your on steroids you have to be extra careful with chicken pox!. Good that you've had bloods done, best of luck for results and I hope your son is soon better.X
My grandson had chicken pox a month ago I checked with rheumy and she if I had chicken pix as a child not to worry I don't know if that helps you
Hi tracey, hope you havent got the chickenpox yet, as misty said if your on steriods or immunsupresive medication we are all told that if we come in contact with anyone with chicken pox to contact gp asap..its got this stated on my steriod card i have to carry with me..i think its because if you have/have not had chickenpox before there is still a chance you may contract shingles which can be very nastys for us lupies xx hope this helps, i wouls say contact your rhumy/gp and tell them about the situation x hugs
If you never had cpox or very little cpox, you might them again. They could actually develop into shingles, very, very painful, they stay, come and go throughout the rest of your life. Be careful, when blusters break, they will spread, quarantine is best, but not very likely with a child, gotta have your care-Good luck.
I had chickenpox as a child. End of last year I got shingles. Yes it is very very painful. They put me immediately on aclovire (I think that's how u spell it). But please check with your rheumy. My gp put me on this and told me to take all my other meds no problem. Luckily I am in contact with my lupus nurse who was shocked and advised me I must stop taking my Mycophenolate while on the aciclovre. That's really important. Anyway, my son come home from school a couple of weeks ago with chickenpox, but luckily I didn't catch shingles again. Although I had the aciclovre on standby just in case. One of the first symptoms I had was tingling under the skin and it being very sensitive. Apparently it attacks your nerves under the skin. Hope this helps.
You can't catch shingles, shingles is a deactivation of the chicken pox virus which hides in your nervous system after you have chicken pox. Having a suppressed immune system increase the chance of the virus re activating and giving you shingles, as your body is less good at suppressing the virus....but you can't cach shingles from chicken pox. Someone who hasn't had chicken pox can catch chicken pox from your shingles though
