Yes indeedy! I'm on steroids at the moment for a flare . Dry eyes, a desert dry mouth and frequently crusting sores inside the nose were some of the newest set of symptoms. Steroid nasal spray has helped.
Yep - I get almost like an ulcer just inside my nose. Really sore and uncomfortable. It's never occurred to me to mention these to my rheumy bit might bring it up and see if they can give me a steroid spray if it helps
Hello. Yes. I take two antihistamine due to my allergies, dogs, house dust and grass pollen. So my nose is always running. I get crusty sores inside my nose. One on the very end, left side, never really heals. It often looks like I have a bogey hanging out of my nose, but it's crusty or dry skin hanging off the sore. Also get sores around my mouth. Not spots. Not blisters or boils. Weird things. I call them my lupus spots. Take ages to heal. It's such a strange illness isn't it!
Yes...I've had lupus all my adult life and have had these recur over & over.
Milford has described mine perfectly. Mine occur mostly in my right nostril, deep into the pulpy bit at the tip of my nose. They are vvv sore, and become incredibly painful when infection develops...which used to be vvvv often. I am prescribed topical antibiotic to treat the infections, but ENT recommended daily neilmed sinus rinsing which has helped reduce these infections...I think mainly cause the Neilmed saline nasal "washing" makes for good nasal hygiene. But perhaps my daily oral combined therapy lupus meds are also reducing the incidence of these sores
My understanding is that, in my case, these sores are mainly due to lupus-related small vessel vasculitis (which affects my whole body, especially the extremities). But I also have a Primary Immunodeficiency (which prexisted my immunosuppression treatment by decades...I'm 63 now). this puts me at high risk of bacterial & fungal infection anywhere in my body
Years ago, naseptin was the first topical antibiotic I was prescribed god these sores. But I became resistant to it. Now I'm prescribed bactroban. I think the neilmed sinus rinsing really does help reduce both these sores & their becoming infected. The treatment plan immunology has me on for the Primary Immunodeficiency is daily prophylactic oral antibiotics indefinitely...but this treatment hadn't stopped my nasal sores becoming infected. (I do not have MRSA!)
Yes! I get these on a regular basis. Happens in both nostrils, just inside the nose. I also get bothered with mouth ulcers and severe cracking and splitting of my mouth. I don't have a diagnosis of lupus as my bloods keep coming back negative. My rheumatologist, who has recently retired, said my symptoms all point to SLE and that 2% of patients are seronegative. I could be one of that 2% but he wouldn't give a definite diagnosis. I see my new rheumatologist for the first time at the start of May.
Me too! I didn't even realise that these nasty little sores could be a symptom. Mine are so sore, they make my eyes water when you catch them! As for looking like a bogey - yep! A few months back, I was in a meeting when a big piece of flaky skin fell out my nose...I was mortified! Oh the joys! At least I can laugh about it now but Sara - you need to see you GP if you have any symptoms.
I used to just put a dollop of moisturiser on my finger and apply, but my consultant suggested Vaseline and I have to say - it's like a miracle! Seems to clear them up in no time. I guess, as well as moisturising the dry lining of my nose, it also provides a barrier. Anyway, give it a try. Heather
Oh my goodness! Didn't even think I'd get a reply to this random question! But obviously it must be a common complaint.
Yes when u knock it it hurts!! Esp the tip of ur nose it feels like there are spots under the skin. I get the splits on my fingertips too and God when u catch that it's so sore!
Thanks everyone, I put Vaseline or sudocream on them but prob not regularly enough as forget but will make sure I do
My GP told me that they were down to changes of temperature of the weather and prescribes me Naseptrin to use & that lots of people gets fhem. I find if knock the crust off they bleed quite heavily & then new scabs grow, but they are bigger than they started. Next time when I will get them I will definitely try using Vasaline as Heather has said her GP told her to use it, at this rate we will all be raiding the medicine cabinets. I have never really known whether to call them spots or ulcers, at least I now know i am not the only 1 to get them.
I get this as well even though I am undiagnosed. I use a saline rinse up my nose. I use a special pot called a Neti pot to mix a saline solution. I the pour it up one nostril and it comes down the other one. It's a old yoga cleansing practice. This seems to work for me. It keeps my sinuses clear and seems to stop the ulcers up my nose. It may be worth a try for those suffering.
I have perforated septum from nasal spray which was steroid means get constant scaby sores inside my nose and terrible nose bleeds last one resulting in blood transfusion lost three and half pints of blood!! Also as well as lupus have sticky blood and emphysema so can't have operation bit like Daniela Westbrook but mine is much further up my nose near my eyes ! DD
I've read that nasal sores are a symptom of lupus/connective tissue diseases. I, too, get them and have for years. I always thought they were cold sores that formed in my nose instead of around my mouth. I was able to take a picture of one (with a little stretching of the nare!) and I WILL be showing my Rheumy doc at my next visit. Currently, my diagnosis is Connective Tissue Disease based on symptoms and a high ANA result. Will see what the doc says about my latest photo!
Id just like to update on the nose sores...so I used Vaseline twice daily (definitely before bed) and in the last 9 days since my post they have cleared up and are much better. So I am still going to apply it daily to keep the area moistened to hopefully stop it from splitting again.
I don't have Lupus, but DO have Autoimmune problems. To answer your question, without being too rude...F..K YES! Just inside, on both sides- of both sides.
