Hello everyone PTSD is something that I don't think of a lot ,I was talking to my doctor yesterday and I happened to mention this to her ,and she confirmed that I definitely have PTSD ,FND and has referred me to the Barbury Centre in Birmingham I just don’t like the idea of being a mental hospital but she said the hospital can help me in many ways she can't, specially with the right medication, I so want to be normal I have two older brothers that doesn't even ask how I'm doing , it's difficult because all this is from my childhood days and I'm now 62.

There's way too much stigma around mental health issues and facilities that help people deal with them, in my opinion.

As far as I'm concerned a 'mental hospital' isn't any different than a place where they provide physical therapy or a so-called regular hospital.

Also in my experience and with what I've learned over the decades it's basically impossible to heal from post-traumatic stress challenges if one is thinking pejoratively and judgmentally about people who have them, places that help people deal with them, etc.

Hi I hope the diagnosis will enable you to access treatment and services which will help you.

I understand that PTSD can be seen as a psychological injury following trauma. Sometimes changing the way we view things can help.

I hope you don't have to wait too long!

It's good to see you.

I can understand your hesitation regarding the hospital.

I commend the Dr for coming right out and saying they can't provide the help you need. Many doctors won't do that, they don't like to admit something is more in depth than their education.

I hope you can find the care you need

Hi Littlecook,I'm proud of you for talking with your doctor about the PTSD. That is a building block in your healing that I think can create the sense of normalcy you desire.

Baby steps. You're not alone, and it's never too late to make progress no matter your age. As for your brothers, we are responsible for ourselves and our own mental health, and we don't want to let others behavior effect how we maintain that.

I am thinking of you and sending good thoughts for you.
