Hi, I am new to this group but not new to participating in different therapies and groups to work through my symptoms of PTSD. My most recent difficulties have been around criticism, judgment and exclusion and also silence from my childhood biological family especially at the time of my mother’s recent passing. I had a traumatic childhood. I want to be able to just move on, away from any thoughts of most of my childhood family, but I’m struggling. I have one brother (of 5 remaining siblings) that I am close to.

Welcome to the community.

Many of us can relate to what you have written. I've been through this and I understand what you are going through.

The judgement is old messages that were instilled in us. We have to learn to shut those voices down.

I'm so glad you are working with groups and different therapies. My personal experience is that we have to dig deep and feel pain before we can learn our self worth.

It's so good you have one sibling you are close to. I had one sister out of 7 siblings that I was close to and I needed her to talk to because she understood where we came from.

Please keep working. It took me 10 years to conquer this, things come back at times but my coping skills and understanding is something I didn't have for many years.

We are here for you. Thank you for sharing

❤️🐬

being around biological family usually triggers me because they are the source of my ptsd. Going low/no contact hs been so good for my mental health. It’s been 18 months now. DBT and medication for my anxiety and adhd have also been quite beneficial.

DBT?

Dialectical behavior therapy. It’s similar to CBT but it focuses on specific tactics that are different. It’s also more in depth. Instead of just weekly visits, I also have my counselor on call 24/7 and have group therapy weekly to practice the skills I learn.

Okay. I have used many therapies and didn’t recognize that one. Thanks.

Look into it. The main workbook is free online. Physical copies are beneficial though. You can work it alone, but it’s more thorough with therapists.
