Not sure what to do to help?

Hello, again it has been 6 years since i have posted here. This site and you amazing people saved me (and my Family) then and i am hoping it is not too much to ask for an encore performance.

My girlfriend is suffering from what I believe is severe PTSD ( not officially diagnosed)from when the police mistakenly raided her house roughly 3 years ago. As time passes, her fear increases that her front door and rear windows are going to be kicked in again. This intense fear has progressed and has her convinced she is being watched 24-7 and scared to leave the house.

What can i do to help her and show her I am here to support her 100%. What is the best way for me to respond if i don't think these things are happening?

i would real;y appreciate some advice from others that have shared similar experiences.

Thank you

You can search "how can I support someone with PTSD".

Tell her you're there for her and you care.

Beyond that, she needs help. Encourage her to find a support group in person or online. Trauma-informed therapy is important too.

I'd give a lot to have the kind of support you're offering her. It matters.

Hi Hutch1972,

Welcome back.

I am so sorry you are in such a very difficult situation and I really feel for your girlfriend and what she went through.

Does your girlfriend have a therapist? Does she see any other medical professional?

I feel best to be supportive and let her know you are there for her.

If she has a therapist, can you go together to talk about strategies and things that can help ease her fears?

Telling her it is not happening might not exactly help as this might make her feel worse.

Fear of going outside is very tough one and can take a while. She would need to work with a therapist and slowly face the outdoors, a step at a time.

I am sorry this is very tough...
