Emdr success stories .... what is the best thing it has done for you?

Hi...for anyone who has successfully done Emdr or who is doing it now, what would you say the best thing that has done for you is? I know it does not erase memories but how has it helped you move on and live life with them? I am still in the process.

UThanks.

Hi. I shall have a good think about this and get back to you. EMDR has had so many amazing benefits for me and has totally changed my life, so I need to consider my answer carefully. I actually have my very last EMDR session this afternoon and I am feeling very emotional about it.

Thanks. I can’t wait to hear from you. As I indicated, I am in the process and am hopeful. Would you say that it is lifesaving?

Definitely lifesaving for me.

I hate to get too personal and please do not answer if you choose not to, I will understand, but before emdr did you consider means of leaving this earth? Please also note that I am NOT considering this but I am still trying to figure out how much of a positive impact this hopefully will ultimately have on me. Thanks!

It's very complicated which I will explain when I can answer properly, but the short answer is yes.

I will send a proper answer as soon as I can, but it might not be today as EMDR exhausts me and I also live with cognitive fatigue from a brain injury.

Surviving each day is the hardest. I was barely making me most days. Love my therapist....yet I still struggle.

EMDR cured me of my incessant nightmares which were so bad I was too afraid to go to sleep. Had severe insomnia.

This was the single biggest and most dramatically noticeable change I had from EMDR. It enabled me to sleep soundly through the night which is in and of itself life changing.

It also helped to dramatically shift my perception of past traumas that I just couldn’t seem to get past any other way.

It was the only thing able to interrupt certain “looping” in my thoughts and beliefs. It somehow enabled my brain (i.e. perception) to be cracked open in such a way that allowed me to see from an outsiders vantage point instead of my from my same loop.

It’s hard to describe. Even as I experienced it I couldn’t believe or explain it. It sounded crazy as I relayed my astonishment to my therapist but it seemed almost magical how it would shift my perception of something that I couldn’t talk myself out of before that point.

It truly has to be something physical in the brain that helps rewire or reprocess the memories.

I’ve done so much therapy and tons of self directed self help. EMDR is by far the most noticeably effective thing I’ve tried.

It provided me noticeable shifts and relief at a time I was desperate for improvement (after having done therapy for a while up to that point).

I highly recommend it but needs administered by a qualified trauma therapist who fully understands its power and process. trusting your therapist is essential for best results.

Wishing you all the best in your journey and with EMDR!

Thank you so much for your encouraging response. You have given me hope. May I just ask one more question? How many sessions did you have before you felt any relief? I know we are all different but I am curious. Thank you.
