Hello Everyone. I am new here. I am curious to know if anyone is doing EMDR therapy? I am hopeful that it will work for me, but would like to connect with others who are going through EMDR currently or have completed it. Thanks so much.

Hi. I am currently coming to the end of a course of EMDR therapy. There have been some lengthy interruptions to the treatment due to Covid, but my next session is this coming Friday. I am happy to explain stuff and answer questions etc. but I can't do that right now as I am in the UK, so the time difference means that I have to go to bed!

I will just say that having EMDR has been an amazing, powerful and incredibly positive thing for me.

🙂🌸

Hi Phogsmom, I’m in EMDR therapy. At first I thought it was weird and wouldn’t work for me but I stuck with it an I’m glad I did. It helps that I don’t have to speak my trauma because just speaking it would retrigger me. I have found it very useful, it is not or I haven’t found it a quick fix. I have complex trauma and DID and it is even helping me develop co consciousness with my parts (alters). Please feel free to ask questions I will reply as best I’m able to.

Hello, over the course of my journey I have worked with numerous therapists with different treatment modalities including talk therapy, hypnotherapy, timeline therapy, somatic therapy and emdr therapy. I was originally diagnosed as having general anxiety disorder but later realized that I really had social anxiety disorder from childhood bullying. I was able to heal and recover from the social anxiety but continued to have some unresolved anxiety issues.

I realized that I had c-ptsd and needed to work with a trauma therapist. I chose a trauma therapist who utilized emdr as their primary treatment method and I found it made a significant difference in helping me recover. For me, emdr, somatic processing and relevant talk therapy were the best for my recovery.

A good emdr therapist will help you initially establish safety with your relationship and processing and a safe "container" for your difficult emotions. My therapist also used hand buzzers so we didn't have to worry about the eye movements.

I would suggest working with a emdr therapist that specializes in treating trauma if possible.

Hi

I have Functional Neurological Disorder and complex PTSD - all triggered by a bang to my head.

I am on my second session of EMDR and feel like I’d tried everything else before! It is so unlike what I’ve tried before and I am making so many connections outside of the session as my brain does it’s own thing ... I feel hopeful it will work. It seems too simple in my session but over the week a lot of buried emotion surfaces. Hope that helps and good luck 🤞
