Car doors slamming, or car engines going by are torture for me. I am sitting at my computer and a fan is on to muffle the sudden sounds. I have never been on this site before. Just trying it for the first time.
Hoping to meet folks who can relate and maybe learn.... PTSD feels like hell.

Welcome! I think you'll find a lot of great support here. Absolutely, PTSD feels like hell. I can so relate to sudden noises. I'll jump at an unexpected sound for sure.
This really is a great place to gain knowledge and insight from all points of view. I find I am more accepting of the "advice" from people that actually get it. You will never hear, just get over it that is for sure. Welcome Marishka, and I love your name by the way.
I'm so sorry. I can be the exact same way, over different things. I hope you have access to a trauma expert psychologist. May be pet therapy? Sending a big hug - these things can drive you to a nervous breakdown. Maybe you are linking these things to a real fear or memory from the past, or even present? i.e., maybe it's the noises, etc., but people you associate them to? Or, it's the standard PTSD startle mechanism.
