After last time where I was made to feel like a "fraud" & left in tears, I am really feeling concerned.I am quite poorly most days but i know from the last medical the questions don't seem to relate to Fibro. Any tips or advice would be welcome, thanks, Kaye.
Hi, I have a medical with Atos on Mon... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Hi, I have a medical with Atos on Monday, my 2nd in 2 years.
Hi,Bring a family member for support who can also help clarify how the condition affects you and those living with you on your worst day .Use any aids you have been given or bought.Don't hide the fatigue under make up ..Tell the examiner of any appointments that you have had or that are upcoming with relation to fibro.Bring any letters or appointments with you, also a list of doctor appointments you have had within say a two month period.keep calm and friendly(not Cheshire cat smiley) if you get upset that's ok as it is distressing to feel judged on every movement or word and explain how it makes you feel to be you as only you can.If you can try avoid sitting or standing too long as personally i found the chairs there torture and spent time trying to sit and rest leaning on back of it to ease the back, hip and pelvic pain.Bring any medication you have with you ,if it does not effectively ease your pain say so.There is no magic answer that covers your question as everyone will find it varies throughout the country and you will encounter lot's of stories relating to their personal experience of ATOS and medicals.,Some good some not so good.I think the examiners are just normal people doing a not so nice job and they must encounter all kinds of pretend scenarios from all walks of life.I had my first experience with this in July this year and i was so anxious and nervous as the whole concept to me was humiliating just being in that building was awful yet the examiner was nice strangely human i was expecting some kind of robot. The outcome was support group and the lady did not require me to do medical. At the time i thought i had failed due to that not having enough points to warrant the medical so i left feeling proud that i had managed to get there ashamed that i got upset when explaining how my condition affects my young son and how i rely upon my older children to do what i can't (13 year gap) and sad that i am as i am.Thankfully i got through it with a positive outcome.I will be re assessed in April and no doubt will feel as you do now.Good luck ,you will get a lot of support here and everyone will cheer you on ,x
Thank you so much jolow, I will do my best to follow your suggestions. I'm glad you had a positive experience....I suppose the humiliation & emotionless woman I had before has given me a bad experience. On reading the report on my medical I also realised that the wrong information had been recorded...the whole thing was just an awful nightmare.
I look forward to getting to know people on here better & hope i can in return, offer some support to others.
Thanks again, Kaye, x
