Going through insomnia phase

Despite taking 2 Tramadol, 2 Amitriptyline and a herbal sleep aid, I still can't sleep! Hoping to see Doctor soon to see if he can help. Does anyone else go through phases like this?

I can't remember the last time I got a full nights sleep. Even my GP commented when I last saw him that I look exhausted. He gave me Cloral Betaine, said it would work but no effect on me at all so far

hi everyone, I've been an insomniac for about twenty years, I have the sleeping pattern of a bat, even my family ask if i'm a vampire, sounds funny but its not. i never sleep at night, and usually ,depending on my level of pain, sleep through the day, this has a profound effect on my life, and also my family.there are days i dont sleep, when there's to much noise, or i have hospital apps., or simply because of pain, but nights, never. its so dibilitating and i have cfs too which makes me exhausted, all of the time. i would'nt know what it's like to sleep at night now, been thinking about becoming a pole dancer lol, only thing is the pole would have to be horizontal. still at least i have my humour to accompany me!

Hello Gailbt

Almost all my adult life I have been a poor sleeper and over the years have tried to remedy this.

I have a diffuser next to my bed into which I put pure lavender oil and play Classic FM with the timer on for an hour - this lulls me into a lovely place and I can then drop off.

If I do wake up I have a CD in the player which is ' Classical music for Babies ' and is so soothing that I drop off again.

If all that doesn't work I read a good book.

I also have taken Nytol when I'm desperate and it works for me.

Since taking Amitriptyline I have a lot of good night's sleep, not every night but more than I ever have done.

I hope a few of these tips help you as every day is a drag when you have exhaustion added to Mr Fibro.

Hugs Ren Robin...xxx

Hi I couldnt sleep at night until my dr found the right combination of night meds .... 75mg dosulepin and 0.5 mg clonezapam. Got this combination 4 years ago despite having fibro for 22 years so yeah trial and error.Usually gets me 7 hours sleep unless I am having a bad flare up or my routine is changed. If my husband and son are out together I can't sleep till they are in safe despite taking the meds my body seems to go into overdrive and ignores the meds... Soon as they are in I just fall straight to sleep.

Thanks for your responses everyone, they have been really helpfull. I go through insomnia phases but then every so often, I go through sleeping for most of the day and night! Neither, I would say is easier than the other. I toss and turn for ages then get so annoyed that I get up and read, I then feel sleepy but as soon as my head hits the pillow, it's "Ping" I'm wide awake again! This has only been happening over the past few months, that and much more pain. Ah the joys of fibro.....nonamedaisy, I like your humour ;-) xx

hi,ask your doctor for phenergen tablets...non addictive and very good..half a tablet does it for me hunny zzzzzzzzzz..let me know xx

I've always been an insomniac and even before Fibromyalgia etc., I went to work on a 12hr shift on three hours sleep! I just kept going and going . . . .! Now with Fibro, I feel that I really need sleep and no matter what meds I've been given I still can't sleep well. I have just accepted it really. Short of hitting me over the head with a mallet, I usually read a newspaper on my IPhone, play a game on it, listen to a soothing relaxation music and I still can't drop off lol! I still manage to keep going though thankfully lol! :)
