Is FM hereditary?

Thinking back my father seemed to have many of the symptoms that i have (although he was never diagnosed, doctors were probably unaware of it then!) and my cousin (on my father's side) has it. Does that mean that there is a genetic link?

There is a genetic link, but previous generations would have been likely to get a different diagnosis (e.g. Fibrositis - what we now know as Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain) if any

my mother was almost crucified by what they called rheumatism back in the 70s and she moved to the south of France to get the warmer climate. My aunt (my mother's sister) was plagued by fibrositis. I've seen that rheumatism and fibrositis seem now to be referred to as FMS, so there you go...

My consultant told me that "in 50% of cases it is Genetic" I think that means that it can be hereditary then? My mother was diagnosed with RA but I am convinced now that she had Fybro. She was in hospital for 5 weeks before she died, the nurses had to turn her in bed and she would scream out in pain just because the nurses had touched her gently :-(
