I take Glucosamine, Multi Vitamin and Vitamin D xx

Hello, I read a book on Healing Diet for Fibromyalgia and it read that we need around double the amount of the recommended daily allowance due to malabsorbtion, also fresh health foods, plenty of water, etc. I also am using food for my cognitive difficulties - vit B complex, oily fish, gotu kola, gingseng, ginko etc. The local library has this book written by a sufferer of FM/CFS. I've found they help and that I need different things at different times.

Me again, I'll be getting some valerian tincture to help with sleep - I've just come off Amitriptyline after 5 weeks as it didn't suit me and now my sleep problems are back. Trouble is it all costs money when the financial resources are so low. I think as long a healthy foods are purchased, and plenty of water are the basics.

Thanks for all of your help I do take Amatryptaline at the moment and it knocks me for six, having medication reviewed nxt week as theres a new Doc at the surgery, I will take on board your invaluble advice, Sparkie x

Hi just to say you should never take supplements without talking it over wit your GP there can potentially be some nasty side effects when taking prescription drugs and supplements.

Hi there, always check with your G/P before taking anything, i have heard that many Fibromyalgia sufferers are deficient in Vitamin D, i take a Vitamin B12 supplement as it is supposed to be beneficial for the nervous system and can help with restless legs, what works for one person may not work for another though. Take care xxx

Unfortunatley the doctors very often no nothing about vits and supplements, and people can miss out on the benefits that they can give. If you think about it look at the drugs they prescribe that either have no effect or bad side effects and yet we take them willy nilly without question. There are very few natural supplements that have bad interaction with prescribed medications. The only thing you should avoid is St. Johns Wort while taking any antidepressants. Glucosamine is an excellent supplement for damage to soft tissue in the body. Muscle, tendons, cartillage ect. But I dont think it is the best for fibro as there is no actual damage just the pain. xxx

hi sparkie 13,

It is always best to get the vitamins and minerals that you need through eating a healthy diet and maybe more of the food groups you need for any particular deficiency you may have.

That being said it is often easier and simpler to take them in tablet form, particularly when the cost of all these lovely healthy foods is an issue.

It has been found in several studies that people with Fibro, in particular post-menopausal women, are deficient in Magnesium, VitD and VitB12 and that the result of a Magnesium deficiency is symptoms very much like Fibro in as much as pain and fatigue. It has also been shown that taking these supplements can help.

However, before you take any supplements I must reinforce the advice given by Christine, soulsousie and della74, you must discuss this with your GP.

Firstly to establish whether you have a deficiency of any of these, but almost more importantly, whether they would interact badly with any prescribed medication you are taking.

Good luck when you see your GP

happy hugs, kate :)

Hi I am entirely new to this, not even sure if it's what's wrong with me, but I've been looking up loads of stuff and you might like to read this link I think they are selling stuff so you have to weigh up the advice for yourself but it all seems to make sense. Natures Best have just started doing Devils Claw. Also, if you order on line you can post questions about compatibility with meds. For instance, I know I cant take St Johns wort with HRT but found out I can use Rodiola rose-whatsit instead, so I shall try it.
