Can people with Fibro give blood?
How do you know if you have ME? As I started suffering with symptoms after a bout of flu, and I have extreme fatigue, I don't quite understand, and how would I get disagnosed?
I gave blood for years as I have a rare blood group,I only gave up a few years ago due to age.
But could still be called in an emergency because of rarity even though they now know I have fibro and Sjogrens

i used to give blood but i have been told that now i take medication i am unable to give blood but if i came off my tablets 7 days before giving blood i could.
sadley if i came of my tablets then i would not be able to sleep work or have a life so i try to help others in other ways
I checked with my doc, as I am a universal donor; Fibro/ME is not necessarily going to stop you giving blood, but the type of drugs you take may. Just ring your surgery to ask and they will tell you, or you can ring the local bloodbank at the hospital

Morning all, i used to be a blood donor! that was until i got diagnosed with FM, someone had mention to me that i might not be able to give blood anymore, i got on the phone to them and was told that was me finished giving blood ;( That has upset me more than anything else since being diagnosed, its the same with my friend who has MS she can no longer donate. xx anne
Interesting that 2 of you are O negative , I am also---wonder if there is a link ---don't think there has been any research done
Hello again hun,you will find that most of the population is Oneg or O pos or plain old O.
I as I`ve said have the rarest and when I have had ops I have blood taken and stored ready for the operation to take place.
If you feel well enough you should still be able to donate, but not if you are aniemic youself, and some meds rule it out so you just need to ask next time they are doing it in your area.

I asked about this and I emailed the Blood Donation people direct which may be your best option.
I was told I can't donate due to the fact I take Oramorph.
Thank you everybody for your replies.
Quite varied so im thinking that maybe each PCT is different with patients. So far my local gp has given the answer of i dont know. Very helpful, I also popped into the local blood bank drive and also they didnt know. One of the staff there actually asked me if i had made the condition of the name up as she had never heard of it before.
