Hi my friend

I watched it but I was not impressed by it. I personally feel a great deal of testing etc was missed in the programme. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I saw it too and too be honest felt that the doctor was pushing healthly eating as a cure for fibromyalgia.

I have been on a healthy eating plan since the beginning of 2016. I am 4 ft 11 ins tall and was weighing 11 stone and I am now 8 stone 12 lbs. I was struggling getting around and climbing stairs and made the decision to lose weight to help me with this. I decided that I did not want to take any of the very strong meds offered and take 25mg of Amitriptyline at night to help me sleep and co codamol when needed. I still eat healthy food I am also a strict vegetarian. Even doing all that, yes, losing the weight has helped a little bit and given me more confidence but I still get the awful pain, chronic fatigue, sleepless nights, brain fog and bad headaches. So this doctor is totally wrong to say a healthy diet is a cure for Fibro. Sadly I don't think anything will ever cure it. I have tried to hold it together for 3 years but yesterday I was at my worst and felt sad and very lonely within this awful illness. My husband is my rock but when you feel that bad nothing or nobody can help and you just pray the following day will be a better one. Today has been a much better day thank goodness. I am thinking of all of you struggling and the last thing we can do without is someone telling us what we should be doing when they can not possibly know what this illness feels like and the life changing effect it has on your life. Big, gently hugs to you all x

I dont know about yourself but I've realise the healthier I'm eatin I'm seeing diffence in my pain and my moods. I feel better within myself. I believe our illness comes down to what we eat and our life style. Medication makes your health worse in the long run due to the side affects.

Yeh maybe he didnt go much in detail from my understanding fibro is complex issues and even though we all got fibromyalgia but thetreatment is indivdual depending what factors affecting us and what Is causing our flare ups. I think she had a problem with her gut which he was looking into as well as fibro an low in vitamin D. From my personal experience sorting my food out and removing tea at night and trying to be Abit more active I feel Better just changing my life style Abit. I not 100% but I'm having more of the good days. I used to over do it with house chose and cooking but now I've calmed down and start to listen to my body. I know we all are not in the same situation even though we all have fibromyalgia and other illnesses with it.

Many fibromyalgia groups were unhappy with the programme and have complained to the BBC. Fibromyalgia is a complex issue and to devote about 30 mins to it is an injustice. Certainly we can use diet, exercise and psychological techniques to help alleviate symptoms a little, but it's not a cure.

I would say to Dr Chattergee, 'the programme was a good attempt, but could do so much better. Disappointing.'

I'm not sure if he said it was a cure. He was talking about how to manage it and maybe he has only come across 1 person with fibromyalgia. Defo needs to do much more research on it. I believe there is cure for every illness but they have not discovered it yet. If they gave us the cure of our illness they would be out of business. They give medication with side affects so with one problem you will need to be on a different medication.

The woman herself has said on FB that her fibro is now gone. The consensus is that she probably didn't have fibromyalgia to begin with. She was given a b12 shot, plus other supplements, all of which has continued. As b12 deficiency is often misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia, then it would be a fair conclusion to say she didn't have fibromyalgia at all. Or maybe it was mild.

I agree that the pharmaceutical industry has an invested interest in keeping us ill. They probably hate Dr Chattergee!

Its tricky as there is no real test for it but I do know of two people that have had "ME/CFS" for a few years and have gone on to recovery. Both female, one in teens to her early 20s the other was late twenties. So recovering isn't totally out of the question. Neither of them had a magic cure as far as I can find out, but healthier eating was part of it....obviously that just might be coincidence!

Eating health Its a big factor to recovery but individual may response different to it. I'm in mid 20s myself so I don't know if age plays a part.

To diagnosis fibro is quiet complex and if she didn't have fibro and treating it as fibro then, that's wrong. Ppl can be under the illusion they have fibro until they told some thing else. Maybe she had aspects of fibro maybe because of he gut problem as was mild and it's not like we get b12 shots to see instant results either.

I think that maybe some people have actually missed the point and ignored some of what the Dr discovered in that particular patient. What the Dr tested for was SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) which is frequently found to be the ROOT CAUSE of other conditions, particularly auto-immune conditions such as Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Having seen the programme, I am now beginning to research SIBO and beginning to wonder if it may be at the root of my own health issues as what I'm finding out does make sense and as far as my multiple symptoms go, it ticks all the boxes!. It appears that some food intolerances can cause a leaky gut and that in turn causes the immune system to create antibodies to attack the body. You'll find info on SIBO on Healthunlocked if you type it into a search.

Yeah exactly that's what I was trying to say. Out fibro triggers are different. Let me know what you find out about yourself. Hope things go well.

I have been having some reflexology & food intolerance testing done as following advice on auto-immune conditions, I thought I may be intolerant to gluten. However, it turns out that wheat is fine for me but that the 'healthy' oats I have been eating may be contributing to bacterial overgrowth. It appeared that I was intolerant to milk but on delving further it's not the lactose but the milk protein causing a digestive problem. I was also intolerant to other proteins such as all types of meat but when she tested me with milk or meat protein + lemon then I was ok.

Her advice has been that I don't need to completely cut out protein but to make sure that I have the juice of half a lemon or some apple cider vinegar in water before any meal containing protein. Another surprise was that apples and tomatoes are not very good for me.

I am trying hard to cut out sugar and refined carbs and also to cut down to one or two cups of tea a day to try to avoid caffeine too. This is very new but I'm convinced that there is less bloating.

We could spend every hour of the day researching all of the elimination and gut-friendly diets and it's so time consuming and wearing and sometimes I come across conflicting advice as it may be that what works for one person doesn't work for another. My previous GP said that there are lots of things that will help 30% of people with Fibromyalgia to which I replied that everything seems to work for the same 30% and nothing works for the other 60%!

The nutritional therapist seems to think that as long as I make changes gradually and follow her advice on taking some digestive enzymes & probiotics then I should see an improvement.

That's interesting read. I was told if your lactose intolerant then add dates with it.

Not what you're looking for?
