Has anyone tried massage chairs? Do they help? Any recommendations?

Hi everyone,

Hope you are as well as can be. I'm a fellow fibro sufferer too and was wondering if anyone has tried using a massage chair to help with the pain and stiffness.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Thank you.

I tried one but decided against it. My muscles get very tender and didn't appreciate the vibration. I prefer my chiropractor who knows were, when and how much pressure to use. You can go to somewhere like CareCo (other shops are available) and they will allow you to try out all the different chairs.

Hi Dinkie, thanks for your input. I am a bit worried that it might cause more pain instead of taking it away but will google CareCo like you said and see how it goes.

I have tried massage chairs but never bought one, I do get a monthly massage on my legs and back which is amazing for me and I love a deep tissue massage to the point where it hurts, afterwards my body feels great. I know that this kind of pressure isn’t for everyone and a more relaxing lighter massage would be an aromatherapy massage x

Hi AllthatGlitters - thanks for taking the time to reply. Feel like I need a deep tissue massage but really don't think I'll be able to handle it as I'm so sore all the time. Also, it's quite a lot to pay out each month which is why I've been considering the electronic type.

I hope you manage to find something that suits you 💜 anything to help with pain has to be a positive x

I use a revitive medic for my legs and feet and I do find it helps either the stiffness and swelling. I do 30 minutes every morning and since I’ve been using it I find it easier to start moving around in the mornings. It takes away all the stiffness.

There are cheaper options out there but I do recommend the revitive.

Hi Nelly1, thanks for your recommendation. I've seen those in Boots and have been thinking about those as well as some weird looking leg compression thingamies.... but thought I'd maybe start with the massage chair as I've also got a back injury too and feel that dealing with that pain should take priority

Hi Sian10, thanks for your reply. That's really good to know - similar looking thing I'm thinking about getting too but just wanted to check with others if they found them worthwhile. Do you mind me asking what make/brand your one is please - seeing that it works :) - and if it's the vibration type or something else.....so many different options to chose from I'm getting confused!

Hi I've had several different seats but we're of no use didn't help pain 😢 unfortunately the only thing that has helped me it electric heatpad and jacuzzi sorry it may just be me x good luck

Hi pinot, I'm sorry to hear that. The jacuzzi sounds good though....I've read somewhere that hydro therapy pools can help, so it makes sense. Personally, I can't even have a nice hot bath as my body's so stiff it just doesn't bend the right way to go in -lol :( - I'm so desperate to find something that helps though .....some kind of magical space suit would be kinda handy
