Devil's Claw alternative medication

Hi all,

I've been on Pregabalin and Duloxetine for a while. This has some impact but still suffer daily pain. I use Turmeric massage oil which does offer some relief for a while. We have a local health care shop who has prescribed Devil's Claw which I have been taking for two weeks. I do believe it is helping. My dose is two tablets, one in the morning and one at night. I am sleeping a little better. Booked into see a Chiropractic this evening as the pain in my neck, back, shoulders and down my right harm never really goes away.

Has anyone found any medication beneficial? I know there's no cure but really need to try and make life more bearable.

Thank you

Sarah

Hello, I am glad the turmeric oil is helping , I am on Duloxtene and also prescribed Codiene which I use for very high pain days, it usually works for sbout 2/3hrs at a time, I do not use it all the time as can be addictive and doc says use it when nescessary, cold days like today seem worse so warm baths each night with muscle soak or Epsom salts I find helpful, as is my hot water bottles and keeping warm. Hope your appointment goes okay x

Pleased to hear you are getting some relief. I use biofreeze gel, epsom salt baths, magnesium spray, heatpads, tens machine, weighted blanket and a diet free of any processed foods and refined sugars.I'm also a great believer in chiropractors, mine certainly keeps me relatively upright and mobile.

Just a reminder to anyone thinking of taking herbal supplements/remedies to check contraindications. For instance devils claw should not be used if one has high/low blood pressure, gallstones, diabetes, ulcers or heart disease. Always advisable to check with GP/pharmacist that anything added to prescribed medications will not interact in an adverse way.

Thank you, the appointment went well. A little sore and interested in how I will feel tomorrow.

Usually I am on a high the day after with much more freedom of movement. Originally I had to have appointments every 4 days or so. Now my body has adjusted my appointments are now every 6-8 weeks (that's what I try to keep to, funds permitting).

Here's hoping you feel great tomorrow. If you do, don't go mad and do all those chores you haven't been able to do!

Hi Sarah,I take tumeric capsules every day, if I forget a couple of days I notice the pain more, so it must be helping. I have to try get time to do stretching yoga poses to relief back pain and help with shoulder and neck pain. However, by afternoon the pain would get more noticeable again. Problem is one can't be doing exercises all day long. Physio prescribed exercises haven't helped much, at times feel worse. Will tell them when I have review in late Feb. There's no way of contact before then, email went unanswered, not even bother with phoning, probably get no where but wait and listen to music....

Thank you, that’s useful. It’s so frustrating. I know there’s no cure but feel like you are alone as no one can help. Take it easy, that’s all we can do.

hi there, I’m pleased you found benefit from chiropractic … I have chiro and massage once a month and it has kept me mobile and sees off quite a lot of pain. I also take low dose naltrexone (private prescription) which has been a lifesaver for me. I have tried the amytriptalene, pregabalin route but most things the GP has offered I suffered bad side effects even on a very low dose.
