Might be an idea to see a dentist? I bite down really hard at night(or any time I dose off), mine made me a gum guard to go over bottom teeth, helped. Without it, it causes a lot of muscle tension in my jaw, base of my skull, neck and down into my shoulder,I end up with a headache from hell. However, if you look on you tube, there is a guy called Andy Fields (chiropractor) who does short videos to help release the tension. Won’t stop you doing it at night but helps with the consequences.. I use his number 1 and 2 when I need to , I actually use the end of my dressing gown belt 🤣 as I don’t like the gum guard (it’s silicon)
I wake up with a sore and sometimes swollen tongue, i didn’t know why then I caught myself sucking my tongue and I think that’s what I do when I am asleep. It is normally after I’ve taken Tramadol so I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of them or maybe that it happens when I zonk out. Maybe mention it to the doctor and see if it’s anything to do with meds? X
Definitely see a dentist! Mine told me that because I was biting my tongue and cheeks I was damaging my teeth too! I have a mouth guard now to wear at night to stop me damaging my teeth more and it took a few days to adjust to wearing it but now I find it more comfortable than without since it gets rid of a lot of my jaw pain which helps me sleep!
if I doze off I bite my tongue 🙁but at night when I put my sleep mask on for sleep apnea it dosent happen, but differently I am going too mention this too my dentist in October x
I do that also. I also have sleep apnea, but can't sleep with the mask on. So they got me a smaller mouth piece one but that was just as bad. The noise the machine was making was also adding to me not being able to sleep properly so have up on it, in the end.
I have my fan on in Summer months so that drowns out the noise , yes agree not easy too wear and theve changed my style of mask, I sleep on my front so the new piece digs in , I have a small palette which is why I’ve the apnea , my Cousin had 2 strokes and they found out in hospital it was because he had apnea so not so good to find out that way, take care x
All the time! Bite inside of lips and I've broken several teeth. Sometimes wake up jaw is difficult to open, it's clamped tight shut. Bite guard helps a lot, speak to your dentist, they'll make one for you.
Hi thanks for replying. Yeah another follower also suggested the same as yourself, which I'm gonna look into this. My mouth is a mess and really sore. Seems to have been going on for years.
Yes I know the feeling, mine is also really dry. Issues with throat and nose too. Whether it's fibro or meds or it's a Tuesday! I've kinda given up trying to talk to GP. Hope it helps when you get one x
Would you let me know how you get on if you dint mind. As you might get an appointment before I do.
Hi Debbs, think you've maybe replied to me by mistake?
Yes! For me this has been going on for some years. I eventually got a guard made at the dentist a few months ago but so far I can’t wear it as it’s making my jaw ache and it feels so uncomfortable. It is incredibly frustrating. Sometimes I bite it so badly I wake myself up and find a mouth full of blood. I never used to do this so I’m not sure why it started. It is worth visiting your dentist as you might fare better with a guard.
