Biting my tongue

My tongue seems to big for mouth funny I know but I wake up an my tongue is in between my teeth an a lump is there cos its gone into were my teeth are an then I keep biting it got givin a mouth guard but made me Bork don't no what to do any one got advice

When I was young and fit, a very long time ago, I used to fight in martial arts competitions and you have to wear a mouth guard for that. Yes, it makes you gag initially but that goes away very quickly so don't give up on it. I don't know why you're having these strange problems with your tongue...it sounds awful. Hope you get it sorted out soon

I have had similar problems & was investigated for Nocturnal fitting - (MRI etc) turns out nothing conclusive - don't have any suggestions could be a side effect of the drugs. Also are you over-heating? Good luck & if you find out anymore let me know.

I also have this problem so understand completely what you mean. I honestly think it's something that I eat as when I did a 10 day detox years ago, one of the main things I noticed (apart from losing loads of weight) was that my tongue seemed to shrink and I didn't have bite marks on either side of my tongue. Unfortunately I haven't took the trouble to try and eliminate foods to discover what the cause is as I'm too worn out trying to fight my thyroid treatment?

An enlarged tongue can be a symptom of B12 deficiency. It might be worth asking your GP to do a blood test for B12, folate and ferritin. I also get this problem, and it's always worse when I'm getting low on B12, before my next injection. Good luck MariLiz

Thats really interesting. I suffer with my "tongue being too big for my mouth". I too have b12 injection every 3 months. I have a permanent sore throat which gets worse when the b12 is wearing off and my mouth breaks out in ulcers .

Hi mub40, I buy a B12 sublingual spray to use for those last few weeks before my injection. Also I've found taking a good multivitamin helps to stop the ulcers.

I too feel like I have someone elses tongue as it is too big for my mouth. I also have a sore throat a lot of the time too but this started after I was prescribed Sulfasalazine last year and although I am not on the drug anymore I still have this problem.

I too bite my tongue and the insides of my cheeks causing them to bleed mainly during sleep.Its a jerky type reflex bite which wakes me up as it is very painful,often with blood in my mouth after biting down hard.It has only happened since I started Pregablin.Maybe its linked to Fibromyalgia not sure but I have read about this side effect.

I also have a tongue that feels to big for my mouth. Its a very strange feeling. I did mention it to my GP who didn't seem concerned so I figured it wasn't anything serious.

Got a GP appointment on Monday will mention B12 deficiency.

I also have this problem combined with an enlarged neck. This only started a couple of months ago and the GP has increased my thryoid medication by 25 mg but I personally think it is the thyroid treatment that I am on, Levothyroxine.

I don't think this will help, but, I went through a phase of biting my tounge several times a day. Then it just stopped, I have no idea why
