Just wondering if anyone has had experience of an operation under Nerve Block as opposed to General Anaesthetic. I have just had a plate put in my wrist due to a fall and besides it being the worst experience of my life, my Fibromyalgia has drastically worsened. Wondering if I should have opted for General instead, worrying incase I need any more procedures done. Any thoughts appreciated, thank you! 😊

Nerve block for wrist surgery
I've only had nerve block for migraine, didn't do anything to reduce migraine pain but I'm assuming that's a rather different type of pain?
Having a GA has it's own risks. I have had eye surgery, done with local block and ankle surgery done under GA can't say I noticed any difference in the two. Both gave me a fibro flare but of course it could just be down to heightened anxiety about the procedures being done.
I had to have my carpal tunnel re-done which was going to be done under GA but as I have sleep apnoea the risks of my no waking-up were such that the op was done under nerve block (as it was a 2nd carpal tunnel a LA wouldn't have given the required time to do the op apparently) it was successful and I was first to be operated on and home later the same afternoon. As far as I can tell everything worked as it should, so for me the nerve block was the right way forward. I hope that this helps.
Hi…
I had hip surgery done under nerve blockers. It is much better than GA and you can ask to be sedated too so you’re pretty much out of it and not listening to them doing the surgery.
I had nerve blockers for surgery on my shoulder. I had pins and needles for a day or so afterwards, but it saved me a lot of pain, and helped my recovery. If I have to have my other shoulder done I'd want a nerve blocker again.
Nerve block surgery is quicker than G.A. as they have to work quicker as the anaesthetic is local to the area operated on.
My son had his knee surgery done under local. In one day, out the next!
