Hi Shazza. I was on Pregabalin for a few years a while ago and had to come off it in the end. I had terrible side effects and not much pain relief.

I too suffered with lack of sleep. I would not sleep much at night, then I'd have a few hours of sleep in the day and it just became a vicious cycle. I became nocturnal in the end. I felt pretty numb too, emotions wise. I barely got out of bed even when I was awake.

What could work for some, may not work for others, unfortunately, we are all different when it comes to taking medications. If it is really affecting your day to day life though, it's definitely worth having a chat to your GP.

Sorry I couldn't be more help ☺️

Hi Shazza! I had been wondering how you'd been getting on. Have you managed to find a solution to your issue?

I'm on Gabapentin now and sleep like a log with little pain. I was waking 20 times a night in pain and having to turn over all the time because of pain and numbness. I had your issue with Amitriptyline (my first prescribed pain med), terrible disturbing dreams and not much pain relief. Perhaps go back to your GP and try another drug. There is at least 4, some anti depressant, some epileptic, some anxiety medication all secondary use for pain. I was drowsy in the day to start after taking Gabapentin but now I'm used to it after a few months and am ok in the day and knocked out at night. Find what suits you because if you find one that works its bliss.

Hello, I would differently see your GP for a catch up, not sleeping is so draining and also with the heat , I differently think it’s trial and error with medication, I hope doctor can help you ASAP in moving forward xx

Hi shazzafloyd,

your question and the reply from gemimafibro both describe exactly how I live my life!

Nocturnal, yes.

Awake after taking the Pregabalin and dozy next day, yes.

What a revelation for me!

I hadn’t linked the Pregabalin, first prescribed many years go for Restless Legs Syndrome (which was identified during a sleep study for Sleep Apnoea) and then just continued by subsequent GP’s over the years, to this insomnia I have also had for years!

I had put the daily doziness down to the CFS/ME without considering the meds I take.

I understand completely what you are both feeling!

It has made me think that I should talk to the GP about this, as the main side-effect I had identified and linked with Pregabalin was increasing weight gain year on year.

Thank you for asking the question, it’s made me sit up and think!!!

I’ll definitely try to reduce the Pregabalin ( with the GP’s help) and it will be interesting to see how that goes.

I’m now wondering how many others also have this side-effect too?

All the best to you. 🤗

Well it's defenenty the pregabin if 3 of us are same I have fibromalarga and take 75x2 tablets. I trued a lunch time pill because my pains were creeping back. I couldn't take it. Just laid in bed all day its good for pains and irritable legs. Just you have to weigh up do u suffer with the pains or the side effects. Least we're not alone thankyou

Hiya, just to say I’ve had a very positive response from GP surgery about quitting the Pregabalin.

I also take 2 X 75mg capsules every evening. They’ve told me to try cutting down to 50mg X 2 for two weeks then another two weeks on just 50mg, then zero.

It’s going to be monitored by GP and pharmacist who works from the surgery….. they say to tell them at once if I can’t handle the reduction so fast and we can take it more slowly.

Just waiting for the right strength meds now…… then I’ll start….. 🥺😱🫤😂😂

I find it’s one way or the other. I’m either awake all night then feel like crap in morning or I sleep well (or so I think) and still feel like crap in morning. It’s getting better the longer I take it tho

I find quite the opposite!with the other tablet I am on for epilepsy ,the pregabalin helps me sleep but it also works quicker after I’ve had a very busy day with that my head touches the pillow and I’m gone !
