Excruciating hip pain. how to handle / what could it be?

For the last week or so I have been experiencing these symptoms below which are very new and very scary for me.

• Burning feeling & just horrendous pain where the leg joins the pelvis

• Putting preassure on the hip hurts it (side sleeper so unavoidable even If I try sleeping on my back ; I always end up sleeping on my side)

• Sharp pain in hips

• if I lightly push down, the hip is tender

• Pins needles in lower back

• Pins and needles in foot and leg

• painful to walk / do stairs / crouch to sit down / to kneel

It keeps me awake at night, I get hardly any sleep or any restful sleep and makes me cry which I'm not an easy crier.

I will be phoning the doctors tomorrow and have an x-ray fir my left knee (because it started as just pain there)

As a side note I am on 200mg 3 times a day.

Was on naproxen but found they aren't helping

zapain and tramadol don't work at all

I'm just Interested in thoughts & your experiences

gentle hugs to those who need them 💜

Your symptoms fit multiple conditions.

I have a plethora of them myself.

My Physical Therapist has me using a king size thick pillow to place between my legs (side sleeping) to help take the pressure off of the lower back hip and trochanter bursa in the upper hip.

You can try using lidocaine cream rubbed into the most painful spots. Be sure to check with your chemist first to make sure no bad reactions between your current meds.

I find it easier to rub into my skin if it is slightly damp before applying.

I hope this is helpful to you.

I just said a special prayer for you my friend.

Best wishes for relief soon.

Do you have osteoporosis, or is there a possibility you might have it? If so, there is a chance it could be a fracture (they can happen spontaneously.) Please be careful what you do and ask for an x-ray if there's a chance it may be that. Take care.

Hi Charley, I have osteoporosis in my hips. I’ve also been in horrendous pain the last few days. I describe the feeling as stage 1 labour, it’s been that bad. I’ve been taking Nurofen Max Strength and that’s helped. I’m also on Pregabalin. I’ve been resting for days. It happens every week when I mop and vacuum and of course then I have fatigue. So I’ve hung up my mop and will leave it to someone else. I hope this helps 👋🏽

fightingfatigue, research Delta tocotrienol, boron, and magnesium for the osteoporosis plus Activator X.. There is a form of thiamine called TTFD to benefit from for your fatigue. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.

Thanks Pte82, I already take zinc but I’ll certainly look into the other meds you have suggested. Thank again, stay safe

So sorry you are in pain, I find zapain helps me forget the pain cause of the intoxicating effect for few hours. And amitriptyline helps me sleep at night. Good luck with your doctors. Hopefully things gets better.

I am so sorry to hear about your difficulties, it's really awful when pain keeps you awake at night. Obviously pursue with the medical examinations, etc. but I am just wondering if you may have joint hypermobility? I have hypermobility disorder in addition to fibro and I have been suffering from SI joint pain (which includes pain in my left hip) for a couple of years. I am also a side sleeper and it feels a lot worse in the morning. Doctors often overlook symptomatic hypermobility, a good rheumatologist that specialises in hypermobility confirmed my diagnosis. I never knew I was hypermobile until I was diagnosed.

For SI joint instability, I found a really good McTimmoney chiropractor, she worked with my joint movement. I wouldn't recommend this treatment until you know what your dealing with first, it involves the subtle movement of the pelvic bones so the x-rays and scans are really important to get first.

For SI strength, when I worked with a standard physiotherpist, my pain became worse, it helps if the physiotherapist is a specialist in hypermobility. Hydrotherapy is also brilliant; getting into a warm pool helps so much with nerve and muscle pain. Can't wait for covid restrictions to be lifted!

I am not sure about naproxen and zapain. When I want to boost Tramadol, I combine it with 2 paracetomol, please get the ok from your doctor. When my nerve pain is bad, I resort to Nortriptyline and I take it at night. Perhaps have a chat with your dr about pain relief? I get the numbness sensation too, I get this when there is nerve compression and the movement of the bones causes this (due to the hypermobility). It sounds horrendous and scary but it's ok, my numbness comes and go but bending its normal for hypermobility. Sensations come back.

Good luck with getting to the bottom of the problem and I hope that the pain eases soon.
