Itchy skin

Hi I have rheumatoid arthritis and also fibromyalgia. My skin never stops itching to the point it bleeds and leaves a lot of scars. Has anyone else had this? Thanks.

What meds are you taking? I also have RA and fibro. But only experience the skin itching on Tramadol x

Hiya. I take pregabalin for fibro and methotrexate, tocilzumab got RA. I loved swimming but it’s got to the point where I don’t want to expose my skin to anyone now. Thanks. X

Oh, that sounds awful for you. I also love swimming...in normal times! You can buy swim leggings and long sleeve rash vests which would cover everything, if you fancy going once the pools re-open.

I’d definitely have a chat with your GP and/or rheumatology team about the itching, though. Doesn’t sound right to me.

Yes, it drives you mad doesn't it, I ended up going to a dermatologist, and they have prescribed betnovate cream, which does help a little, and gentle moisturising, which can be used instead of soap in the shower too. He told me to try my very hardest to stop scratching to break the cycle, and I know its almost impossible but with perseverance these things have helped, hope it can help you.x

Hi,have you brought this up with with your rhumatolagist as I have psoriatic arthritis and it sounds very much like what I get dry itchy skin but I don't have psoriasis.I was told rhumatoid and psoriatic arthritis can be hard to diagnose as they are very similar.

Thank you. I’m going to see the rheumatoid consultant when I’m able to. It’s really upsetting me as the scars are so visible and irritable. Thank you.
