Itchy skin : Hi all does anyone else on... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Itchy skin
Oh yes, for years. It might be a side effect of antidepressant as itchiness(pruritis) is a side effect of most of those. I have what I call "itching attacks" where my hands or one or two fingers will itch so intensely that it nearly drives me crazy. I also have a spot on my back that has itched for 25 years. The dermatologist said it was nerve related. Just one more thing to hate about fibro!
Thank you I find I get itchy face and as you say back too it drives you mad all the things that are related to this horrible condition 😟
Yes. My husband, although he has taken very good care of me for many years, still says things like, "you have so many issues". It hurts my feelings, but I don't say anything because then he'll just stop talking altogether. I was complaining that my feet hurt so bad yesterday and he asked me why! After 41 years of living with me and having had fibro for almost all that time, how he can still ask me why is such a mystery to me. I have pain from the top of my head to the soles of my feet, virtually every joint and muscle in between. I itch, Im always tired, I cant sleep without drugs and even then not very well, I have lost so much strength it is frightening, and I have more fear and doubt and anxiety than I have ever had now that I'm aging with fibro. I do wish my life away. Would love to be with Jesus where there is no pain. But I push away from that because I know my daughters and sisters need me. Thanks for reading. Guess I needed to vent a little. Now your turn!
I suffer from fibromyalgia, arthritis and epilepsy and many other issues.
Like yourself I suffer with itchy skin which I hadn’t really put It down to fibromyalgia I had put it down to my changed medication for epilepsy where itching is a side effect. The medication is called Topiramate, some people also take this for other conditions such as migraine, bipolar etc and I believe it has also been prescribed for fibromyalgia too.
The symptoms I get is when my body gets slightly over my normal temperature it can’t cool it’s self down so it makes me itchy to remind me I’m getting too hot and I start to itch uncontrollably all over my back and I have to cool myself down with a fan. Once my temperature is back to normal the itching stops again. I didn’t have itching issues before this.
I am currently coming of this medication for this reason and others so hopefully once I am completely off the medication the itching will stop and I will have a normal temperature again but as you know with fibromyalgia temperature control is always a problem.
I hope you find some kind of solution to your itching but my only solution so far has been to try and bring my temperature back to normal by cooling my body down. I also take a small hand fan with me when I go out.
Lots of love 💓 and gentle hugs
Carole
Thanks for that I have recently started dihdrocodeine so it could be that causing it Im also on citalopram take care xx
Hi I also take Dihydrocodeine but have been on it for years and never had any itching problem but remember our bodies all react different to different things. I don’t really remember having any issues with it to be honest.

Oh yes. I suffer quite a lot with itching. If it seems to be lasting more than a few days my GP advised me to take an antihistamine for a few weeks. (Please check with your GP before doing this though) xx
Yes skin itchy all the time ,especially my back.
Yes, me too! Hands & fingers, feet and particularly my arms!
Yes, definitely. Sometimes it’s so bad I could scratch down to the bone 🤪
Thanks for your reply xx
Hi Mille21 Oh Yes the fibro itch is a bitch, it can strike you anytime and anywhere, at the moment I've been suffering from an itch straight across my shoulders my neck and so far down middle of my back which drives me insane, the itch picks where it wants to annoy you next. I hope you find some sort of relief. Hugs🤗
Thank you x❤
Re itching. Had it for years. I have found mixing liquid bee pollen(on line or health food shop) with some aveeno cream, smeared on, really helps.
I mix it up and put it in an empty jar.
It does stain clothes though.
You can try the mix that suits you best.
I make it a deep shade of custard.
On top of medical remedies which others are recommending can I recommend a company on ebay that sells essential oil blends. The name of the company is Katseye, you can just go to ebay and search that name. I use their blend 4, a few drops mixed into a bland moisturiser like nivea and use it daily to moisturise my problem areas, like my legs and arms, the smell is luscious and it is very soothing.
The owner of the company is lovely and if you are not sure what to get he will recommend.
Hi yes it gets really bad sometimes fingers feet middle of back top of left arm very random

Hi,
Wearing anything including underwear and socks that are made of 100% cotton helps great deal. Avoid wearing anything that is made from synthetic materials and anything that is elastic huggung the body. I don't know what to do with the end of fingers itching like a hell.
Allthe best
Itchy ears! They say don't put anything into your ear except your elbow! But I can't live without Q tips/baby buds as my ears get wet inside and it feels like fruit flies crawling around, especially at night when I go to bed. I don't believe there is any treatment, and am just pleased that I don't suffer from wax or hearing loss.
Hi there,i know exactly what you’re going through,i was given an ear spray called OTOMIZE by the GP....it’s a life saver, hope it helps you too.tc
Thank you so much. I went to the doc some twenty years ago and he said he could see nothing in my ears. I've just received a load of meds for pain, so next time, I will mention that to my GP and give it a try. No-one seems to understand what I'm talking about, and I just write it off as a strange symptom of FM!
Mine are exactly like that too!
I get it in my ears too, they feel wet all the time but unfortunately my hearing has been affected. Also my face, I feel like ripping my skin off!!
People have no idea what it's like to live with this xx
Oh J2302, that sounds dreadful. I do have itchy skin but nothing as bad as that - just sensitivity to labels, loose threads and stray hairs. Have you tried any of the remedies suggested by other people here?
I call them 'the itchies'. For some reason it seems worse at night. I feel like I can never relieve it. I could possibly scratch my skin off because the itch is so intense. Feels like I have mosquito bites all over my body. Doc prescribed Atarax. I hate taking it during the day though because it makes me sleepy.
I too suffer from very itchy skin. Mine is also worse at night and in the heat. I only wash using E45 cream now because soap just makes me worse. I had not linked this with fibro but it appears that it may be playing a part.
OMG, I have a diagnosis of Fibro and my arms have been intensely itchy, bumpy, scratching manicly till the skin breaks. No one knows why. Tried everything - every cream. GP has now given up! Maybe it’s a Fibro thing 🤔
Just catching up and saw this. Can I ask please when you have the itchiness does the skin change, eg go red or anything? I can’t see anything where it itches (except scratch marks when I can’t resist scratching).
I have been suffering from extreme itchiness for several weeks now and finding it very difficult to cope with. The GP prescribed different antihistamines but they don’t work on the itchiness and make me feel rotten. The worst is my head (and no I don’t have nits) but it can be anywhere. Debating now whether it could possibly be related to Butec pain patches and whether to stop them. Reluctant to though as finally got my pain under control.I have never been diagnosed by medic as having fibromyalgia but just spinal stenosis though do have symptoms of fibromyalgia.
Hi no nothing there juust itchy x
