First experience of a professional once they hear fybro

I got sent to lymington minor injuries yesterday. 12 days ago i had half a stones worth of solid metal platters fall 7ft onto my foot. Bruising was coloutful. Thats now gone but the swelling pain and pins and needles is getting worse. But always been able to wiggle my toes.

My gp practice said to go to minor injuries as it sounded broken. Off to lymington I go. Send hubby off to walk dogs. I went in 2 find 2 stations with empty sanitizer. I was then asked for my details. I repeatedly explained Im new to hampshire, as she couldnt find me. So a new profile had to be made. Incotrectly cus it had to be redone by triage nurse. Swear thats what took the most time. I was then asked for my mobile number so they could do my preassessment from the car. Problem its not here. You can sit on the seats outside..so 10 mins later im sat in a bus stop cus it raining discussing hysterevtomy depression, and fybro. Mortified. Telling me every 1 is sick with morphine and whats sulphites. Which drugs are they in what foods are they in , and getting mad cus i'm saying it depends who manufactures it. Back to waiting inthe bus stop .

Was called in to see triage nurse. Who was unimpressed with gp and practice physio advice. As soon as fibro was mentioned it was like the blinkers came down. So the sticks for fybro not foot. Why havent you iced it. Etc. Went for xray. (Eventually, because he took 15 mins to rewrite profile.) Back after to same guy, who told me its not broken but its significant soft tissue damage, will take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Rest pain killers elevate and ice. I asked a few questions. Each time he told me ice despite me ,each time ,telling him i cant stand more than 2 mins.

He then said Southampton will get pics in a couple days so if hes missed anything they'll see it. But wont do anything any way.

My stress levels were through the roof. By now ive got shooting pains everywhere. Shaking the works.

I know we should be grateful to our hardstretched nhs but this was a joke. They are seeing 1 patient at a time. I saw more than 8 triage staff and 3 receptionists.

I couldnot believe the fibro blinkers of the staff I spoke to..

Sorry rant over, just needed to get it off my chest to people who will empathise.

Sorry to hear you have hurt your foot and had such a negative experience at the hospital.

I've been lucky in that the majority of times I've seen health professionals it's not been automatically dismissed as fibro - though that ends up getting the blame when no other reason can be found.

That must have been a horrible experience and they sound totally unprofessional. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.x

Rest up ,hope that gets better very soon, yes not very nice having a bad experience and still do not get why fibro is still not widely recognised these days. Can always have a rant and good to get it off your chest, x

Sounds like you had an absolutely awful experience.. It doesn't help when you are not well and they can't or won't help.. My niece works at the local minor injuries as a domestic and 2 weeks ago she trapped her hand in a fire door at work.. There were no first aiders so she went across to the minor injuries unit to get an ice pack as her hand had really swelled up and started to bruise.. They wouldn't help.. Told her we don't have ice packs and you should have called nhs24.. She said I am on duty and In the next bloody building.. She was spitting feathers when she told me..

Shocking! I hope she made an official complaint.

Wow! That's worth a real strong complaint, to your GP, Practice Manager, Walk in Centre Management, PALS, The NHS Trust for your area and the Care Quality Commission.

Oh how I recognise the fibro blinkers😥 I'm an ex RGN too and find the current NHS so sad though it was never perfect
