I have not been able to have a bath for over 10years (and no I dont smell I shower lol) I would LOVE to be able to soak in hot water and I am sure it would help my Fybro? I am also having problems climbing into the bath to shower these days I am not on any benefits...any ideas?
Does anyone know of any grants or hel... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Does anyone know of any grants or help towards a walk in bath?
Yup a few, and I am with you there, a bath is loverly!
Have you asked about Hydro Therapy from your Doc? I did and wow its wonderful! Be careful though as it hides all your pains until you get out, and if you have overdone it!!!!
Anyway, back to your question. Have you applied for any benefits? I get the higher DLA mobility grant which pays for my mobility scooter - so now I can get to the shops. I only use half of it for that and the rest is mine to use as I see fit - and saving for a walk in bath seems a really good idea!
If you need help around your home too, such as getting into/out of the bath, dressing etc you might get the higher DLA for that. You have probably seen that its not easy to get, but persever and get help filling it in. Send in doctors reports, letters everything you can think of as well as a letter detailing your life at its worst, as if its all the time [which I hope it isn't] as they cannot vary the support for your easy days [which I hope and wish you have many of].
I have heard of ESA but don't know anything about that. You could contact your local government disability support people and see whether they have anything and in addition, look for Charities which may support this too!
Good luck and let us know if you suceed!
Soft hugs
ask your gp to refer you to social services (occupational therapy) and your local council will arrange it for you. If you are on benefits or low income you should not have to pay for it! I have a wet room and I just love it!!
They put in a shower over my bath, I had an occupational therapist who came and had lots of handrails put in etc and a wide bath board. She just wouldnt understand i find it hard to get into the bath.
I have to sit on the edge of the board (after making sure its in a good place to shower) slide myself to the back then turn my body so i can actually get under the shower. Its a long hard process but they cant afford a walk in shower or wetroom for me.
Been asking for ages with no luck.!
But i am on low rate so i couldnt get extra help anyway.
Good luck to you though. xx
Thanks so much for your replies I really feel I am in a catch 22 position, I am a foster carer, and I love looking after the teenagers I care for, so I have to be really carefull about applying for any benefits because the last thing I want is to be deemed unfit for fostering. The last time I saw my doctor I was in floods of tears because of the frustration of not being listened to! and she said to me "are you sure you are up to fostering" The thought of doing nothing frightens me, the foster children keep me going, If I didnt have to see to them, attend meetings, and support groups I am sure I would have given up a long time ago! It is hard and I do have to push myself daily anyway although I do have pain daily and get overwhelmingly tired I dont think I am bad enough to claim DLA. I would just love to have a soak in the bath but it looks like unless I am on a benefit I'm not going to get help xx
I would consider contacting social services for an assessment and having a chat with them.
Many seriously disabled people are parents and do a wonderful job.
Being worried about getting into and out of the bath does not impact on your ability to foster and make a real difference. On the other hand, having a fall in the bath could make a big difference to you!
Alternatively, there are various aids that could help, such as a step, handrail and bath-board. Many of these are cheaply available online.
I take my hat off to you. I think foster carers do an incredibly tough wonderful job.
Thank you x
I was going to say Social Services should help and notice some one has done this, i had family members who have walk in showers due to diabilities, same with stair lifts aswell but i know also like some of my customers have paid for their stair lifts or showers as being workers and paying privately they prefer that way but it can be costly.
think a walk in shower dependant size was around 2,000, so unless you have funds. go with Social services they do a lovely job anyway you get a choice on colour .. the floors feel a little rough on feet but it is safety for slipping.
i hope that you get all the help you need. also you can see about mobile dinners and cleaning help too! (i do not know your age or anything so apologies if i making you sound more disabled) but i assume if you get the highest rate that you are entitled to most things with help.
I find out through a lot of my customers i have.
xxxxxx fluffy huggles and at kialaya Love your profile pic of fairy lady!! My busines logo is a fairy i love her so much lol xxx
get in touch with your local occupational therapist...they were excellent and ive now got a wet room....no bath..:0(...but i can shower unaided..
I live in a council house, When I was first diagnosed my doc arranged an OT to come see me, This woman was amazing. I got rails put on my front and back door, a new step out the back door as I only had one tall step, new handrails up the stairs both sides and one at the top of the stairs. an electric toilet that washes and drys, a deeper bigger bath and a bath lift. She got me a funny kind of stool for my kitchen so I can do bits at the sink, you just rest your bum on it. She also got me little aids to help in the kitchen. My local council have been brilliant. I would never have thought of asking for this stuff but it has made my life so much better, Good luck, I hope you get what you need x
Hi,
I am off work currently but have income protection to keep me going - It was suggested to me that I get in touch with local social services to request a Needs Assessment (you can do this online) by the OT from my insurers. I did this and a lovely chap called Luke came over resulting in a bath seat, perch for the kitchen and a motorised frame for the bed that fits over the existing base and then can sit you up at the touch of a button - I have cervical spine issues that sometimes flare badly and it can be very hard to move then. This is free help that anyone can get regardless of your situation.
Good luck babe
